Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A ARenovated but still old hotel. Friendly but unhelpful reception staff and very unfriendly and overstressed breakfast restaurant staff. Small, crowded rooms with no airco or safe. Expect to feel "welcome" when you're being told upon arrival to pay for your entire stay in advance "because of earlier problems with other guests".
Location
Doorwerth is a nice and quiet area. If you're looking for a place to relax or go hiking or biking, this is the place to go. Nice shopping in nearby Arnhem.
Reception staff is friendly, but not very helpful. They stay behind the reception desk, no matter what happens. If you need a pillow or help with your wifi connection, you will be asked to come to the reception. Also don't expect help with your bags. There is none and you will have to drag them up the crampy stairs yourself when you're staying in the parts of the hotel without elevator. The restaurant staff during breakfast is plain unfriendly and stressed.
Gastronomy
We've only used the restaurant for breakfast, and that was all we could handle. Although this hotel features the very nice breakfast buffet as I know it from other Golden Tulip places, stuff is not being replenished quickly enough. This leads to guests asking for more, which in turn leads to more delays in replenishing other stuff. Finding a table is a struggle. Staff is supposed to seat you, but since this doesn't happen consistently, guests will find a table themselves. But staff will then clearly tell you that "you cannot sit there"! Not the best way to start a relaxing day......
Sport & Entertainment
The hotel has an indoor and an outdoor pool, both nothing special. Luckily our kids love water, no matter what the pool looks like!
Room
There is a card in the room that states that bed linen will be replaced every other day, for the sake of the world. Fine with us, but on the third day the bed linen was not replaced, and I suspect they leave the bed linen unchanged until a guest complains.
We had a family room, which means a regular room with a double bed and an adjacent small room with 2 single for the children. Nice idea, but the room(s) are very small. You can't open the door without jamming the bedside table. Our room was smelly and hard to climatize. No airco and bad (no) air flow in the room.
Tips and recommendations
There are better places in the area, like the Bilderberg
