Hotel Grand Makadi

The hotel was right at the beach which wasn't suitable for swimming, though, because of the offshore house reef. The sea could only be reached on a small path across a building site. Besides, good bathing shoes were necessary, even though they couldn't protect from injuries either. We experienced plenty of injuries in one week. There were no entertainment facilities right outside the hotel. Trips could be booked on site.

The friendliness of the staff was perfect, they made a great effort to make our holiday as pleasant as possible. The room cleaning was excellent, the rooms were very clean. When complaining, they tried to solve the problem immediately.

There were six different restaurants which I all recommend, there was something for everybody, Italian, Caribbean, Oriental, Thai, Libanese, could all be tried. The buffets were very nicely decorated, and even guests coming there late were still served in a friendly way. We were allowed to eat as much as we could! Of course, it didn't hurt tipping the waiters every now and then. 1 Egyptian pound should be appropriate.

There was a different entertainment programme every evening. Entertainment wasn't pushy. Minimal shopping facilities available, but just inside the hotel area, nothing outside the area. But there was a free shuttle to Hurghada several times a day. The large pool area was very clean and well-tended, there was supervision too, plenty of pool chairs, showers and sunshades.

The double rooms were very large and clean, had appropriate furniture, TV, safe, balcony, mini bar, telephone, air conditioning (adjustable) and a huge bed!

We still had 35 degrees in the first week of October, a little wind, but always sunshine. However, there were lots of children because of the school holidays!
Be careful when booking packages in the spa, write down all the massage prices (when booking 6 massages, only 5 had to be paid). That should be written down, otherwise you'd have to pay all of them in the end!

Since I'd been in Egypt 22 times, I can compare the hotels quite well, and for a relaxing holiday, I'd book this hotel any time again. But just to lie at the pool, the sea access was a bit difficult. But I heard that they were going to build a jetty.
