Hotel Grand Makadi

The hotel location was very good. Only a few minutes from the room to the pool/beach. Hurghada was about 35 minutes away, and could therefore also be reached quickly, but the hotel was still remote enough to offer peace and quiet. We recommend to go shopping in Sakkala, as the shopping area next to the Grand Resort hotel was rather expensive. Sakkala was about a 10 minute drive away and well worth seeing.
Plenty of trips were offered in the hotel or by the tour operators on request. We made use of that and enjoyed every trip :o) Really great.

The service was top. The staff was friendly and spoke foreign languages. We had no communication problems.
The room was cleaned every day (as expected), so no complaints here. But tipping was still advisable :o)
We don't know how complaints were handled, because we didn't have any :o)

The number of restaurants and bars was appropriate, but there were still some we wouldn't really recommend (such as the Lagoon).
We didn't understand why we weren't allowed to use the restaurants in the Makadi Palace, whereas the guests from there could use the restaurant in the Grand Makadi. That should be improved. Apart from that, we had no complaints about the restaurants, the food was delicious and the waiters friendly, but as I said, small tips were always advisable :o)

There was said to be an entertainment programme, but we didn't take part in it. We only used the pool once in a while, and it was okay for that. It was clean and refreshing. The beach was very nice too, there were plenty of beach chairs available. Everything was free except for extra hotel beach towels which were changed every day. We spent many hours snorkelling in the house reef :o) A few shopping facilities available, but they should only be used on rare occasions, because the shops in town were cheaper and not as expensive as the ones at the beach. Internet access in the reception area, but we didn't use it.

We were very happy with our room!
The size was ideal and the furniture typical for the country and nice :o) Bathroom, air conditioning, TV, telephone, safe, mini bar, terrace.

Good mobile phone reception everywhere, telephone costs were within limits (text home). When shopping, be careful not to be persuaded to buy something immediately, as it was common here, but think about the price-performance ratio first :o)
We perfectly liked September/October as travel time, as the weather was always nice and not too hot.
You should probably wear bathing shoes to get into the water (even though many people didn't), because there were lots of sea urchins.
