Paradise island in playa blanca was exactly as expected, a 3 star hotel with great friendly staff, the pool was for my 3yr old son safe and clean and the facilities we found to be just what was required. The majority of the guest we met all felt the same with only a few complaining about the walk to the beach, in my personal opinion the fact that there is constantly a free but to an amazing beach where if you had snorkel and goggles could swim with the fish was a big bonus.
The hotel provided food and drink all day and ok on one of the 11 night we were there the food was amazing but for the rest of the time the choice was so wide and varied that we always found something to eat.
The room we had only had to faults, firstly that the air con in our appartment didnt work though they did seek other soloutions to help ie. fans etc and you did have to pay for the tv but to be honest you don't go on holiday to watch tv when there is entertainment every night, sun all day and great guests to chat too.
the guests were in the most part great with on a few of my fellow english citizens being a bit loud, though after one day in the hotest june for 60 years and too much beer they always seemed very meek afterwards.
The only criticism i can level at the hotel is a lack of ashtrays, there are some but they are few and far between, i did enquire about this and i had it explained as they do refresh them but a large number of guest either take them back to their rooms, (though one is provided there) our take them home, apparently the hotel replaces all of the salt and pepper sellers every 3 weeks, the glasses weekly and cutlery as regular because the guest have a tendancy to take them away for beach trips etc. alll in all it was a great trip

ok so its a 15 min walk to the beach, but there is a supermarket built into the complex that is marginally more expensive than down in the town. The hotel is placed in an area that is quiet and not really for people who like clubs etc but whit views of either the sea or the mountain it is perfect for relaxing with the sound of traffic or too many people. if you want to relax then this is great though if you like abventure you can book anything from reception or your rep. On sunday my neighbour and i found a leaflet for a buggy excursion, reception called and arranged at very short notice to get us collected monday morning for a 4 hour tour of the island in a dune buggy safari. it was amazing and everyone we met at the hotle went on atleast one if not more trip all arranged or booked through the hotel. i personally was very impressed

Service

The service we recieved during our stay was that of a staff that cared if we enjoyed ourselves, they would bend over backwards to help on more than one occasion, reception was staffed 24hrs a day and all spoke english. the only downside was the fact that the rooms arent cleaned on a wednesday or saturday but other than that the rooms were always clean before we returned from breakfast. the gym and laundry were spotless and i never found any reason to complain.

Gastronomy

The main buffet is a large are with the option to sit outside, this area can be used for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can also eat at the pool bar for lunch which seems to go on all day long and there is also a resturant on site that you can help yourselves too.
The food was always varied with the mexican night a huge favorite with my family, the mix of local cuisine and more recognisable dishes really impressed and more than that the sheer amount of choice was great, do not expect "british food" that often as all the food is prepaired on site and cooked fresh, some nights infront of you.
The drinks were generic with the soft drinks being coke, coke light, lemon and lime, lemon, and a fanta varient. All are passable but i did sometimes long for real coke. You had a choice of wines and spirits and a beer (though i dont drink them so cant comment on the quality)

Sport & Entertainment

You could play water polo, volly ball, mini golf, air rifle shooting, use the gym or do water aerobics with the animation team keeping you busy if you wanted. the evening entertainment was always fun with reptile shows, bird shows all the way to bingo and karioke, if you were bored and couldnt find something to either do or enjoy then i guess you'd have to be hard to please.
The hotel even provided a sun adviser who came around daily to tell you how hot it was and the right spf for your skin type etc to help stop people becoming lobsters though a few guests we saw obviously didnt listen.

Room

The room itself was very spacious, a double bed in the main room, the lounge diner was comfy and the bathroom was clean. The room had a safe, TV, air con, kettle, cups, plates etc, with frying pans etc in the cupboards a fridge and a 2 ring hob. The bathroom had the normal shower bath, sink toilet and bidett. Our apartment was upstairs overlooking the town and sea and was well looked after. Our appartment had recently been painted etc and most that we saw looked like they had too, though some it seemed were not as new but you could see that when people left the decorators moved in immediatly to decorate but this was done so quietly that you would have known they were there with looking.

Tips and recommendations

I would say that if you want to relax, you have children under 16 or are a couple over 22 then you would love this hotel, there really isnt alot for the late teens early twentys to do other than relax or use the internet etc.. other than that i would say pack loads of sun cream and prepair to relax
