Mold, dingy, Scottish hospitality *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe hotel is a dreistöckiger building in the Grove street. After the reading a "2 -star-hotel the Scottish tourist board". During the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh were many British, but also Japanese, French, Canadians and Germans there. A special guest structure is to be distinguished, children but we didn't notice. We had booked the Herald House with breakfast.
Location
The Herald House is not central but still within walking distance from Edinburgh city center. It is about 20 minutes from the center. The hotel surroundings are relatively uncomfortable, currently opposite the hotel were a student dorm and it is with compensation to be expected. While we were there, seemed work on the foundation of the building going on. The nearest supermarket is a Somerfield (daily open till 10pm), about 10 minutes away.
The staff were very friendly. German wasn't spoken however, but we didn't expect them. The cleaning left a lot to be desired, there were hairs in our shower on the wall and in the corners, the bathroom was blossoming the mold in shower cubicle, the fan on the fan was full dirt. The bedding was not really clean, but the bed covers stained and initially friendly impression upon check-in, through visual observation our room 203 gone.

The "Scottish breakfast" is served in a Undecorated room with three skylights. The tables or for six-8 persons, but quite close coordination Stahlrohrstühlen sit, when it was full. This is are subject to society nice or annoying. The Schmuddel from the guestrooms continue for breakfast fort: The coffee machine is available from dirt, the table cloths were dirty and stained and will be still not changed, and cups and plates, but also the cutlery were not always clean. For breakfast eggs, sausage, bacon, baked beans, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes, yoghurt, jam, canned fruit (pears), cereals and milk and orange juice. Would be room, the tablecloths and dishes cleaner and the room a bit nicer, could you can enjoy breakfast.

Room
Although the room was adequate in size, but for the English was room 203 right on the Flureingang and thanks to its clairaudience problematic at night. Every late returning guest was clearly heard. There is a TV in the room but only two English channels perfectly welcomed to mention were a spacious built-in cupboard, sadly very dirty, and a safe-deposit box, the easy on the floor. A kettle was available in the room. Every room number was by a decent Gaelic sign on our "Ardnamurchan"; supplemented - which means "caution probably translated, mold! " The bathroom was at least despite predicted renovation in 2005 (year of construction of the electric Durchlauferhitzers) on the ceiling covered with mold, the water heater took some getting used to, but it did the trick. quite sure!?)is available. The furniture was worn out, but not defective. The general condition of the room was poor, the window locked for fresh air, so that it only a tiny gap wide open.
Tips and recommendations
Visitors to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo or the Fringe Festival attracts you with a unfortunately the Fell through the ears. The value of the Herald House is by no means ok, so I can't recommend it unfortunately. With 50 GBP per night would be a double room fair price-wise, however one could in a 2 star hotel, the cleanliness and hygiene expect during my stay was unfortunately not exist.
