According to the catalog it has 45 rooms. This is an older, typical British house, but in isn't meant negatively. The lobby was as far as clean and for a 2 star hotel more than adequate and ok. The room, however, was in our opinion in any way acceptable, in the 'room' more. We only booked breakfast order to be more flexible. The guests, we saw arrived apparently all domestic (United Kingdom). What was definitely not particularly welcoming, its close and quite dark hallways, about the you to get into your room. The rooms themselves are very noisy and made all the doors in the impression as if it is almost invite for breaking. It according to the brochure rated 2 star and we found this been was alright.

The hotel is in our opinion not in short distance to the center. Since we had were located in another hotel and Edinburgh already spacious exploring, is just the distance to the Castle and the Royal Mile walk a little bit of. You need good 15-20 minutes the normal pace. For example. From Princes Street to the hotel or vice versa, is a road, which was frequented mainly commerical development (probably insurance or banks) beach chairs. Here is about 5pm no los, even the little grocery shops and snacks are closed, and it was for us not very pleasant walks. Therefore, we hadn't give a good impression of the location, in terms of distance, but also in that it would suit us not to walk back to the hotel. We did not use the bus, which due to the fact, that we checked out after one night and the remaining three nights stay in our first hotel. The location is in our opinion so not recommended. The decking is also the Brauereigelände McEwans-brewery. Despite the fact that we are not at the beer; -), it was not very comfortable the smell of locally brewed the whole time in the room. evening that then we will so at 9 :30 pm in the street in which the hotel is located two ladies of the horizontal crafts Street Parking encountered made the impression of the area (unfortunately! ) Perfect.

We can say: The staff was friendly in each case. English is a must, but that is generally in Scotland so, so no theme. The room we had was - as already mentioned - only one night, but that was not in order. The cleaning was definitely not taken place before we got the room. In addition, the staff didn't look like us whether a technical training in the hospitality industry. It felt more like most a Art squeling exercise. The lady at the front desk did not even asked, so we checked out after one night, though they have seen that we had four night. It has not been interested. normal way you want know why the guests are not happy, we think at least. We then of us from explains why we were checking out, but as this weekend was busy in Edinburgh (rugby festival, Marathon etc. ), There was no more free rooms. In any case we would really nasty because everyone was friendly, but we are really thought the staff was not very professional. And that is despite 2 stars to be expected.

Since we only breakfast - just returned once -, we could only say: The breakfast room, which is basically in the basement, so this is quite dark. The fact that seemed to be the kitchen is immediately adjacent to this room and the windows are so small and were not available, it was very warm and stuffy. Our table was not clean, crumbs and other remnants of the guests before us were sitting there were still there. Our glasses had still remains of lipstick on. The real coffee machine, which also prepare Teewasser, safe several days (or weeks? ) Not been cleaned. Spritzflecken Dry slices of coffee and milk and leftovers/traces of the drinks were clearly noticeable. The view we feel from hygienic very serious. The breakfast selection was well arranged and typically British. This is absolutely in order. You need more than we didn't think it was. Unfortunately was spoiled our appetite but had a lot.

Our hotel room was behind the end of a about 1,2m wide, approximately 40m long and with several steps porticoed hallway. The end of marked the about 0,9m wide Schwenkflügel-door to the Not-/Feuertreppenhaus. On a sign on the door said it was located (our) room number 210 behind this basement hallway9 ("room through fire door") in the Not-/Feuertreppenhaus (!!! ) is. This was the case. I'm not sure if such a thing is permitted, but as we have good was amazed at how light! It was for us the best. From the outside with view the be deluded noticed the light coming from them. We suggested due to the fact that the Türschließung incompetent or that the door was already broken into, as on the wood also some scuff marks and stiletoes were available. In addition, the door with a extremely simple closure locked which are not the impression that it really are closed the door. Our opinion pointed out the door not even the stability of a plain and simple Wohnungsinnentür. But this door has should be first to ensure that shares no our extra guests access to our hotel room - what's the door but more than invited. Already when we opened the room door lock we were shocked by condition and furnishings of the room. no way we expected the rooms modern or new. We finally were installing after the Hotel description (2 stars) and asked us with this. Simple middle class and functional furnishings meant, however not: - the carpet is almost as very worn, that almost holes available. - The walls were so dirty and worn. - The room including the bathroom dirty or uncleaned. - That the hotel safe, which at the bottom of the Einbauschrankes glued with a screw was, with minimum effort already completely to read. - That the window sills dirt, which contain suggests that these were not cleaned in awhile. - That the lower Abschlussleiste the window sill missing in the bathroom and the Klebereste looks. - That the bathroom door, if you can call them that can not be locked, and to the floor is a about 5 cm high slot faecal through the all possible smells and vapors from the bathroom to the actual hotel rooms. - That the bathroom on ceilings and walls and partly had already mold spores the actual hotel rooms. - That the shower stall several black mold stains on the corners and grout. - That the makeshift room-mounted motorised water heater shower set is not so you either burned or cold shower. - That the rooms because of the bad doors so noisy, so that gets you almost faultless television in the other rooms have to hear. The hotel room was - as is the case in some hotels - a 'deluxe'or two to the neighbors. The isn't negative. However it is absolutely unacceptable that BOTH doors were closed when we get the room. If we had not just checked and so it should have been recognized the risk insisted that the doors the neighbors just in our room. Although they immediately by an employee of the hotel door locked, but our room was for us the unique proof that our room prior to sending in fact not or not enough even been checked. It is now considered as described above the unclean condition of the room, we are convinced that here not cleaned and also not tested. So we handed but no room - no matter if 2 star or 5 star hotel. From the window of the room looked straight out on to the dingy and with worn since been courtyard of the hotel and the adjoining houses. Also the area surrounded by commercial/industrial parks was directly beside the McEwan's brewery. The insistant smell from the brewery, we have already mentioned. Conclusion in our opinion: that the property itself is older and that it is a budget hotel is no question / no criticism! You have to expect and you can't expect that everything is new or FLASHING and sparkles! This was not our expectation! In addition, we also read the previous reviews here and were therefore/tested convinced that we got a good hotel was chosen. We didn't understand that we seemed to be the first to such a bad experience in this hotel. But we must (unfortunately! ) Clearly say that we were disappointed absolutely and specially the cleanliness, the lack of condition and the very bad location we moved as far as that after one night we get out of the hotel as soon as possible. Luckily, because the weekend of 30/31.05 . was really comes alive in Edinburgh, had our old hotel or even a free room! However, we had already before for about 5-6 hotels unlucky and no room was available.

Tips and recommendations

General Edinburgh to say you definitely has to be seen. We spent many travel in different directions to Scotland done (Heart of Scotland tours, Timberbusch tours) and we could look out. Especially the Royal Mile with the Castle and Princes Street are worth seeing! The people are all very friendly and helpful and we were really comfortable. With the weather you should make sure, a raincoat. Because they can quickly spreads from sun on rain. After 15 minutes while gone, but safe. We were there at the end of May - early June in Scotland and had really great weather. The part there were a few days on which was not a cloud in the sky! When you go out to eat it's quite a bit more expensive than in Germany. This has to be one didn't give note. This is not a drawback and still have no need to travel to Edinburgh or Scotland. We are scheduled for completion, stay there again. At the choice of hotel still be a bit more, but the country is just lovely and well worth seeing.
