A great hotel, little wrong *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A ARather than just repeating what has been said in other assessments, we would like to say briefly how we found the hotel. This was our fourth time in Bulgaria. This is a 4* hotel without parallel. There is a small supermarket in the hotel. Very clean.
Location
We thought the location of the hotel was excellent, not a tourist hot-bed, which is unfortunately increasingly common in Bulgaria. A shame that the whole of Sunny Beach has become so overrun with hotels.
Service at reception superb, cleaning lady- despite being generously tipped- cleaned only very superficially, not so great.
Waiters ranged from great to unmotivated. Drinks with supper either served immediately or after 20 minutes, depending on the waiter's mood. That's just not on. Guests who sat down later were attended to earlier etc. And we always tipped the waiters.
Different country, different customs!
Gastronomy
Superb cuisine. Thanks for the best cooking we have experienced in Bulgaria.
Prices of drinks similar to those in Germany, very high for Bulgaria.
Sport & Entertainment
Here everything was great, although minus points for the cushioned loungers by the pool. You couldn't lie down on them. About as thick as a hand-towel. I still have back-pains because of them. Please buy new cushions for your loungers- and your guests!!!
Room
Everything already clean on arrival. The TV was extremely small for a hotel-room TV- minus points. The mini bar was also shut 24 hours before departure- more minus points.
Only book a room looking out onto the sea- the other rooms overlook the main street (we had one). No sleep possible if you leave your window open!!
The beds were made up of two mattresses placed on top of one another. Very soft, didn't appeal to us. A safe is available.
Tips and recommendations
We exchanged money in another hotel. Not in Hotel Tiara Beach- the exchange rate is bad. We have often been to Bulgaria and it has become very "expensive", although you still get something for your euros. A shame that Bulgaria is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. That bothers us. We were there for the first time in 2001 and it was great- hardly any tourism, there again in 2004, when it had become slightly more popular but in 2006 it felt like Mallorca.
