Super - again next year! *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe area which had room for 2500 guests consisted of the Selin Hotel (*****), the Fulya Hotel (*****) and the Kamelya Holiday Village with lots of little buildings without sea view.
The area, the rooms and the beach were clean.
All inclusive was offered everywhere, i.e. we could eat and drink around the clook. Apart from the main meals which were offered in the respective main restaurants, you could also get snacks in the bars and in the Fulya.
About 2/3 of the guests were Russians, the rest came from Germany, Austria, Holland and Turkey.
Location
The area was right by the broad sandy beach of Colakli, about 12 km from Side. Antalya was about 70 km away. Shopping was possible in Colakli itself, when you left the area through the Kamelya Holiday Village main entrance, went to the left and after about 100m to the right, you got to the bazaar after about 120m. Bargaining was obligatory - we could get reductions of 50%. Moreover, you could take the Dolmus for 1.50 € to Manavgat (about 15 km) where a farmer's market took place every Monday. It was nice to visit the famous waterfalls here. Side was really worth seeing for people interested in history. The old town center was still well-preserved, the Apollo temple in the harbor was worth seeing too - everything was lighted at night. In the harbor area, we could see turtles which came up to the surface about every 30 min to breathe. We recommend a drive by the Gulet. When going to the dolphin island, you had to be lucky to really see dolphins and take photos of them. There was a disco for free in the Selin Hotel. Colakli and Side had several open-air discos which weren't really cheap to visit, though.
The staff was very friendly, helpful and always glad when somebody wanted to deepen their Turkish language skills. Almost all employees spoke German, Russian or English and were always up for a joke.
The room cleaning was done every day, the beds got fresh sheets every 3 days, and the towels were changed too. Beach towels were provided for free.
There was a doctor in the Selin and Fulya buildings who could be reached 24/7. The next hospital was in Manavgat and had an excellent reputation.
For kids, there was a kids' club with entertainment and lots of extras. There was a program in the amphitheater every night. We particularly liked the ZORRO and MAMMA MIA musicals. Bingo, a Miss Kamelya contest, a gala party by the pool, a beach party and similar activities took place every week. We could have dinner for free in one of the à la carte restaurants once a week (fish, Turkish, grill, Chinese restaurant). We recommend all of them.
Gastronomy
Main restaurants in the Fulya, in the Selin, in the Village.
Additionally at all the bars, Chinese restaurant, Turkish restaurant, grill barbeque restaurant, gözleme station (flat bread with various toppings), cocktail bar on the 1st floor in the Selin with a great view and live music and especially the dragon bar (beer and wine bar) with an architecturally beautiful area with boats, lighting, etc.
Cleanliness and hygiene were to be praised, the food was plentiful, varied. Next to the country typical dishes there were also chips, spaghetti and a lot more. If you didn't find anything there it was your own fault. The ice cream, altough I otherwise just like Italian, was excellent. For tips there were tip boxes at the entrance. Only in the cocktail bar various drinks (for example Chivas Regal, or similar) had to be payed for and to enjoy a hookah you had to pay 8 € (it was worth trying out!).
Sport & Entertainment
Activities, kids club, disco in the Seling with current songs were great. There was internet access in every room, telephone calls were very cheap.
At the beach and pool the beach chairs, cushions, umbrellas were inclusive. There were showers and dressing rooms everywhere, the water quality was very good, the beach clean and long. At the beach you could go on a canu free of charge or sailing on a catamaran with a licence. For a charge you could go banana boating or parasailing (up to 200 meters high) or go on a speedboat ride. Very nice, partly German speaking team. A staff member looked like Mehmet Scholl. Nice person.
In the Selin and in the Fulya there was a hammam, spa center and fitness center. To be very recommended - and also here you could get the price down.
Room
The rooms were spacious, the closets were clean and came with hangers. Air conditioning, a flat screen TV, a balcony or a terrace, a safe, a telephone and internet connection were available. The mini bar was replenished with soft drinks and beer (Efes) every day. A water heater with cups, sugar, tea, coffee and milk was available.
The bathroom came with a tub and a separate shower, a sink and a toilet/bidet, everything in marble.
Condition in the Fulya: Completely renovated in 2008. Everything was great.
Tips and recommendations
The price-performance ratio was adequate. That was our 2nd stay in the area, in the Whitsun holidays again, we had an outdoor temperature of 35°C and a water temperature of 23°C. If you'd like to get to know the country and its people, you should come here in March, April or November/December, and if you're looking for a beach holiday, between May and July. August/September is for people who like high temperatures.
Vaccinations are not necessary. You shouldn't drink the water from the taps. You could have icecubes inside the hotel without worries, but be careful outside the hotel - risk of diarrhea.
Shrewd locals could sometimes seem a bit pushy. Just let them know clearly that you don't want anything, have a little chat, enjoy a raki or a tea with them and move on.
