Our best time ever!
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThis hotel is perfect if you want just a quiet holiday lazing on the sun beds or even if you go with kids. Kenya Bay is a clean hotel with really nice room and especially bathrooms. Full breakfast buffet was offered every morning and the dinner was great too. It worked out just fine since we stayed on half-board basis.
Location
It's a beach front property and they have a nice piece of beach in front of them. We organised a glass bottom boat excursion and the pool staff actually reccomended who to go on this excusrion with. We didnt have to haggle because the rates were very reasonable.
The staff are extrememly helpful and very friendly indeed. The check in was efficient and a request for extra pillows and towels was met with great efficiency.
Gastronomy
The frangipani restaurant is really good. The idea for us to have booked half board was that we would try and visit the neighbouring restaurants for their fare but ended up eating only at the Frangipani because the food was really nice! The fancy cocktails were well presented and were really delicious and the buffets in the evenings were good. A very easy way to see if your hotel is providing good fare is to just have a look at what is being offered in the vegetarian section. If that spread looks appealing then you know the rest of the food is going to be good. Kenya Bay didnt disappoint like many hotels do. I am not a vegetarian but the veggie food was really nice. The desserts were good as well! They had a theme night every night for dinner so you'd get to taste different cuisines every single day. Great atmosphere on the beach front and in the restaurants.
Sport & Entertainment
They have 2 pools including a small one for kids. Pool staff are very vigilant and even offered to look after my 2 ittle kids while I indulged in shut-eye on my beach bed! generally there was some form of entertainment every evening - a karaoke (which was fun!) and acrobats and always something or the other going on. There was also a play room for the kids where my book worm daughter enjoyed herself.
Room
Rooms are very clean and functional. The rooms are fully air conditions with their own balconies so you can sit outside and enjoy watching the world go by. TV was there, as was a safe, telephone nad power access to charge my mobile phone.
Bathrooms very clean with full sized bath sheets instead of those handkercjief sized towels. Nice fancy touches in the bathroom like tropical flowers and little Lamu chests with face towels in them. Very nice and appealing. The bathroom has a fitted hairdryer. Noise levels are almost nil. Besides the slight hum of the AC we had no noise in our rooms to dsrupt our peace.
Tips and recommendations
The loal mobile phone coverage was excellent even upto the beach front. Overall, Kenya Bay has great value for money - you get more than you expect. They have a doctor on call and one who makes general visits to the hotel in case of any emergencies. Useful to know if you travel with kids.
