5 great days in Leysin
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe Hotel Tour d' Ai in Leysin was our home for 5 days as we dropped off our son to the Leysin American Boarding School. We had a great family room that accomodated my wife and I and our two younger sons (with private parents room). The view out the back balcony looks out over the valley to Aigle below and the snow capped mountains beyond. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the village of Leysin and a bit more walking gets you to the boarding school. The hotel is quiet, comfortable, clean, and secure. This is the second time we have stayed here and have had good stays both times.
Location
The hotel is within walking distance from the cog train from Aigle (the walk is down hill to the hotel- but going back to the train station, you may want a taxi if you have much baggage. We had a rental car to do some exploring around the valley and the hotel has a good outdoor parking lot next to the hotel. There are buses that stop in front of the hotel. The hotel is down the hill a bit from the main part of the village, and so it takes a few more steps to get to where you are going, but the hotel is in a quiet part of town- and everything is pretty close anyway.
The hotel staff are friendly, helpful, and even let me use their cell phone to call Amsterdam to change my car reservation!
Gastronomy
We had breakfast at the hotel in the mornings, a nice typical French breakfast of coffee, juice, great dark german bread, croissants, jelly and soft cheese. Our other meals were outside of the hotel as we explored the area. The staff provided plates and silverware for having a small birthday cake in our room as well!
Sport & Entertainment Unused
As we stayed during the "off-season" things were pretty quiet. We just needed a nice quiet place to rest for the next day- which served our needs just fine!
Room
The rooms are of good size, knotty pine wood panelling that gives the rooms a nice warm appeal. The rooms are simple, with plenty of storage space, and clean.
Tips and recommendations
This was a great hotel for budget minded families that met our needs, friendly staff, and we look forward to coming back in the winter for skiing.
