Very beautiful hotel with personal atmosphere *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AVery beautiful hotel area with personal atmosphere. The jungle view bungalows were fantastic, beautifully furnished and state of the art. When you sat on the balcony with view to the jungle, you got the feeling of being completely alone in the hotel, although the Marina was nearly booked up when we were there.
The rooms were cleaned every day, new beach towels, fresh towels and freshly washed bathrobe were natural.
The breakfast buffet was very good. Tea, coffee and freshly prepared omelettes were served when you ordered them and weren't kept warm for hours. I personally liked that very much.
There were all nationalities in the hotel, from toddlers to retirees. There were also a few tourist groups from Russia during our stay, but they behaved very well and not as the stereotype sais.
We definitely felt very comfortable in the Marina Resort.
Since the bungalows were very widely scattered in the great area, you only noticed that there were other guests in the area at breakfast or at the pool.
Location
The hotel was wonderfully situated on a hill above the long, wide Karon beach. When entering the hotel and going through the fantastically beautiful jungle, you got the feeling of being completely cut off and when leaving the hotel you were directly in the middle of the happenings. There were several stores, exchange booths, restaurants and some tuk-tuks opposite.
The laundry opposite was very recommendable. Just like the 4You optometrist, very good ratio between price and performance.
If you wanted the eat very well and cheap, you should visit the seafood restaurants down at the beach after the football stadium.
You could eat seafood but also all other Thai dishes very well there. We enjoyed the food at Halle Hallo (the owners have grown on us) and at Lamai best.
The employees at the reception already addressed us by our name the first evening and the key was ready without having to name the number. It was natural to them that they were always there for you.
The service staff at breakfast were also very nice and attentive.
The room cleaning was also very good, always fresh orchids on the bed.
Gastronomy
The breakfast buffet was very good, the service staff was very nice and attentive.
We only visited the restaurant On the Rocks once since it was closed for renovations during our stay. But the food there was also excellent and the view to the beach was incredible.
Sport & Entertainment
The pool wasn't as big as in other areas. But it was neat, was very nicely situated in the middle of the jungle and since most guests were at the beach or on excursions, there was always enough space at the pool.
You could get a massage at the pool and the service staff from the pool bar brought everything to your seats.
Internet access available in the rooms except for in the garden bungalows. You didn't even have to bring your own laptop.
Room
The jungle view rooms were wonderfully furnished and left nothing to be desired. Our room had a bathtub in the middle of the room and there was everything from bath salt to body lotion.
Everything was state of the art for fans of technology. Flat screen TV with Apple computer. There were several movies in the room and a lot of music saved on the computer. However, it wasn't possible to watch DVDs brought with you from home since Asia had a different country code.
Tips and recommendations
We recommend buying a Thai phonecard to call home, it was easy to register and the telephone costs were much cheaper than with a mobile phone contract from home. We did a canoe tour to Phang Nga with SeaCanoe and were totally thrilled. The gecko massage opposite the Club Med, Kata beach was also recommendable. The massage there was a bit more expensive (300 instead of 200 baht) than in other stores directly at the hotel but it was much better. The staff there was very, very friendly and very well trained. You got a heated herb pillow put at your neck at the massage and the masseuse washed her hands again before she massaged you in the area of head and face. The premises weren't comparable to the stores at the hotel. You laid on a real massage couch and not on a mattress at the gecko massage. The excursions were quite expensive. We rented a taxi for a day (negotiate the price well) and looked at the sights on our own initiative. There wasn't much going on on Phuket during the rainy season, because of this most sellers charged more at that time than during peak season, because of this you had to negotiate very well to get a good price.
