A dreamlike hotel with excellent service *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AHotel Mariposas was the perfect choice for our honeymoon. Since we had always spent our holidays in holiday apartments so far, we were skeptical about whether we would like a hotel at all - for a cosy togetherness etc ... but we were convinced of the contrary.
The 27 rooms of the Mariposas are all accessible via the outdoor area and not the reception and all have a terrace or balcony, mostly facing the garden towards the sea. The hotel's architecture is very ingeniously designed with some setbacks and juts, so that on your terrace or balcony, you have a lot of privacy. We had a room on the ground floor with a terrace and could even see the sea from there. The entire hotel is fairly new, well maintained and lovingly cared for.
A booking at the Mariposas includes a varied, extensive and lovingly decorated breakfast buffet. From the breakfast terrace you have a great view over the beautiful garden to the sea.
Most guests are couples between 25-55 years old and families with children.
Location
The hotel is about 500 m from the village and 200 m from the beautiful sandy beach.
Restaurants, shops, bars and souvenir shops are in town. A larger supermarket is just outside the centre.
Activities nearby:
Sunbathing on the beach, snorkelling, hiking, horseback riding.
Attractions and travel times by car:
Cagliari (about 1h), the mountains near Arbatax (about 1h), to the historical archaeological site at Nora (approx 2 hours), to the Costa Verde (about 2h), to the Costa Rei (about 20 minutes).
The staff - whether reception or cleaning crew - are very helpful and friendly. The staff at reception can usually speak very good English, the rest of the staff at least a little.
When we wanted to rent a boat, it was pre-ordered directly from a rental at the marina and a discount was negotiated.
Gastronomy
A booking at the Mariposas includes a varied, extensive and lovingly decorated breakfast buffet. The hotel does not offer dinner, but you can order hot sandwiches as a snack. In the evening you can order cocktails and other drinks at the bar and enjoy them on the patio or by the poolside.
Sport & Entertainment
The pool is adequate for a short cooling off and for a few laps - but more is not needed either because the sea is very close by.
The beach is clean and guarded ("lifeguard") - sellers offer t-shirts, beach towels, blankets, etc. - but leave you alone if you don't buy anything.
The hotel is without any entertainment etc.
Room
The rooms are beautifully furnished. The furniture is new and in good condition. All rooms are equipped with individually controllable air conditioning. TV, minibar, safe and telephone are available. The bathrooms have a shower, toilet and bidet.
