Hotel Mythos Palace

We chose that location because it was a perfect starting point for hikes. You could hike for kilometers without having to use a vehicle. Of course, we did it like that and drove to another side of the island with a rental car. It wasn't that far and it was very beautiful, e.g. the way to Matala, to Preveli etc. You also found wonderful bathing bays, where you were completely alone at times. The beach at the hotel was also very beautiful of course, but we've only been there once (help, there were also complaining people). We arrived in Chania, the way to the hotel wasn't as far as from Heraklion. We spent the evenings in Kavros in different taverns where you could comfortably sit and met many people.

The staff deserved 6 stars from us. We've met no one who was unfriendly. But maybe the one or the other was just tired by the end of the season, after working 7 days a week for months. But we still had the impression that everyone tried his best. We had no communication difficulties. Our room was cleaned every day.

We liked the food, there was enough and it wasn't one-sided. However, we were hungry from the hiking and looked forward to the food. If you just lied at the beach and ate there in the hotel in the morning, at noon and in the evening, you weren't that hungry and probably also had some repetitions in the food. Anyway, we enjoyed it. The fact that the platters at the buffet were always soom empty and refilled quickly convinced us that others also liked the food, otherwise the platters would have probably remained full. Cleanliness and hygiene were natural to them. In our opinion, the prices for the drinks were reasonable for a hotel of that category. We didn't use the different bars since we also wanted to see other things than the hotel during our holiday.

We didn't use sports possibilities, entertainment possibilities and pool since we didn't stay in the hotel often. The beach was all right in our opinion. We couldn't understand the complainings about the payment of the beach chairs. We read that in all hotel descriptions and already knew that before booking. If you don't want that, you don't book this hotel; reading correctly is sometimes better, because then, you don't have to get worked up about it afterwards. Moreover, we had the impression that the beach was kept very clean and it also had the blue environmental flag, this only workes with staff and staff costs money. You can't get everything for free.

We had a double room in the uppermost story with sea view, this was very beautiful. The furniture and the bathroom was a bit worn out, but we didn't find that horrible, cleanliness was important to us and that was given. Towels were changed every day even if they didn't lie on the floor, also the bedsheets were changed if required. We heard that there were also economy rooms which were offered for much fewer money, but if you had such a room you shouldn't complain about things. It wouldn't be fair if the economy room had been the same as the other, more expensive rooms. I think the emphasis lied on economy and on room.

The ratio between price and performance was good in our opinion. September was perfect for hikings. If you had a bad holiday mood and homesickness, there was only one thing you could do, go out of the hotel and do something and don't only look for the bad sides, otherwise you should stay at home, there is no place like home for many people (I don't mean that in a negative way). They say, every country has its own customs and we should let the Greeks have their customs and just accept them.
