HolidayCheck reviews applied very well *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AEnough things were already said about the hotel area here. My notes about the hotel are written in the other columns. I refer to the other reviews on HolidayCheck and you have to consider that you can forget 10% of the best and the worst ones, but the wide center matches perfectly with the hotel. All in all, you have to say that the hotel was very familiar. It had 100 beds at most so that you knew many faces after the second day. The hotel was booked up by about 80% when we visited it.
Structure of the guests: Mainly couples (between 20 and 70), few families with small kids. Nearly only German-speaking and French-speaking guests.
Location
The hotel was situated betwen the national street and the beach. Directly next to other hotels. If you stayed in the main building you could notice the street, otherwise you didn't. The hotel was therefore situated directly at the sandy beach which was quite unusual for Crete. On the other side of the hotel (roadside) were the usual tourist stores and restaurants as well as supermarkets and a bus stop. Therefore, a basic care was guaranteed.
We didn't like Georgioupolis (about 3-4 kilometers away) so much. After all, it was a tourist place. We preferred to take a rental car and drive through the island. The airport Chania was probably nearer. We landed at Heraklion and were lucky that we were provided with a taxi at the way to the hotel. The way back to the airport with the minibus took also bearable 2 hours and we had a view to the Mediterranean.
They were always cordial and friendly. You could communicate well in English with the waiters. At the reception, they partly also spoke other languages.
Gastronomy
We had booked half board. We ate directly in the small main building. It had a very informal atmosphere. Half of the seats were outdoors and half of the seats were indoors. We never had a problem to find a seat outdoors. Due to the fact that it was a very small hotel, the choice in dishes was, of course, not comparable to the choice of a huge hotel, but there was always enough change and they always cooked Greek (much vegetables and much oil).
At breakfast, they offered the "standard program" in sufficient amounts. Of course, everything was quite sweet and not comparable to my German breakfast (which isn't bad during holiday). There were also fresh fruits. As drinks, they offered coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Unfortunately, the juices were undrinkable. But you could order a freshly squeezed orange juice for 1,95 €.
At dinner, they offered delicious salads, tzatziki, each 1-2 meat and fish dishes, Mediterranean fried vegetables. The dessert was very sweet too. Both meals were served in the form of a buffet. The prices for the drinks at dinner were all right (10-15 euros for a bottle of wine, 3 € for a glass of wine and 1,70 € for 1 liter of non-carbonated water).
Sport & Entertainment
The assessment only applies to the beach in the end, that one was very beautiful. Beach chairs and umbrellas could be rented which we didn't do however since we prefer to lie in the sand.
Apart from that, there were 2 small pools in the hotel which we didn't use due to the proximity of the beach. Computer with internet access was available (1,5 hours = 5 euros).
Room
The rooms weren't the newest ones but they were absolutely sufficient for a holiday in summer. Bed, closet, 1-2 smaller closets, 2 bedside tables, safe (for an extra charge), TV (international channels), bathroom (shower tub, toilet, washbasin) and balcony (many balconies had sea view or partial sea view).
It was already not warm enough anymore for an air-conditioning.
