A wonderful family Christmas in a perfect hotel
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThis is a huge hotel with wonderful views over the Nile, excellent resouces and lovely gardens. There is something for everyone. Our part yof 10 was aged from 2 to 73 and we were all very happy!
The hotel is well maintained and very clean. We had half board. We were there over Christmas and there was an international clentele of all ages
Location
It is quite a long walk into the centre of town but 100s of taxis and carriages to take you there very chepaly. There are some good jewellery shops locally. The excursion possibilities are massive with easy access to the west bank of the Nile with its 100s of sites - Valley of the Kings and Queens etc. And within Luxor there is am amazing temple; and another magnificent one in Karnak just 2 miles away. There are also marvellos sails on the Nile.
All the staff were friendly and helpful. They made a massive effort to give us a good Christmas. We were upset that there were so few visitors in the hotel because of quite unnecessary scares about political upheavals in Egypt of which there are none at all in Luxor or indeed much outside Cairo
Gastronomy
The food was first rate - buffet style with a huge range of choices and variation every day. There were excellent vegetables and salads and puddings and good meat and fish. The bread was very good and varied. Waffles and pancakes for breakfast were hits with the chldren. There was a very good barbecue most evenings.
There are 3 restaurants in the hotel. We ate in the main one. The others were quite because there were so few visitors.
Beer is reasonably priced but wine and spirits are expensive.
The hotel included - for free- the most wonderful Christmas feast with dishes which would meet international standards.
Sport & Entertainment
There are 2 pools. the best and largest is not heated and was too cold for swimming in December. The smaller pool was fine and there are good loungers and deckchairs all around and a lovely cafe for lunch overlooking the Nile.
There is a good children's playground and table tennis, gym, massage, hairdresser etc, and a lively bar
Room
We had Junior Suites which were large and very comfortable. They could easily accomodate beds fo children. The bath rooms were first rate and there were excellent fridges and tea and coffee making faciltities. The rooms were beautifully cared for and the staff did everything they could to help us.
Tips and recommendations
Mobile phone access is fine. WIFI is expensive. Make sure you get Nile view rooms. The summer months will be very hot.
This hotel gets some mixed reviews and as I was planning the holiday for so many peopple I was rather nervous. However we found it excellent in every way and cannot understand the grumbles; and we are quite picky! This hotel - and Egypt - deserve many more visitors. The bargains are amazing. You should book now and also think about next Christmas. We will!
