The perfect location, on its own island
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AA large hotel but very quiet with long term guests. Many Japanese paseed through on their Nile cruises. Because I hadn't checked our invoice correctly, the upgrade we had paid for was not recognised by the hotel. It didn't take long to sort it out and the courtesy of the staff was second to none. The public areas were excellent, including the superb pools and sun loungers. The food was buffet style which I could have found boring after a while but the staff were excellent and everywhere was spotless. The rooms were a bit dated, but again well serviced and very clean with adequate toiletries etc, and certainly adequate for our needs. The location was superb, better than the Old Cataract! We will certainly return.
Location
Just the most perfect location. A five minute ferry trip was Aswan with delightful boatmen. Luggage was handled for us and nothing was too much trouble. Very easy to book excursions.
Staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, but don't expect anything in a rush! It was relatively easy to explain all our needs and staff did their utmost to make our stay as perfect as possible, from the General Manager to the ground staff.
Gastronomy
Three restaurants, with a reasonable variety of food. The snacks were very good. There a a decnt range on the buffet, but some of the food was only luke warm, which can be a problem with this type of service.
There areas were spotless and it was all very friendly. The staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Sport & Entertainment
We didn't want entertainment, and apart from New Year's Eve there wasn't any at this time of year so that was perfect for us.
The pool areas were exceptional, with superb loungers and plenty of large towels.
Room
A bit dated, but comfortable. I would suggest a terrace roomas it had such a fantastic view and loads of space for watching the Nile go by.
It was very clean and the odd maintenance problems we had were dealt with straight away.
Tips and recommendations
December was a great time. High 20s. Take insect repellent though! A perfect time to get out and about without it being too hot to sightsee, and too busy.
