Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AHotel Rainer is nice small hotel in small village. Very clear (which is not simple in hotel oriented on winter sport). Most guests in winter season are people who interest winter sport and activities - alpine and cross-country skiing, tobogan runs and so on. There are a lot of families with children becouse of hotel suggests very good programms and activities for children - both outside hotel (skiing including very simple routs for children, tobogan, excursion and outdoor programms and so on) and inside hotel (big playing room, swimming pools and so on).
Location
If you ask small vilage for quite family rest - this hotel has best place. Sesto is small village without night life and big markets so you can just satisfied nice winter nature. But you need just 20-30 min to reach resonable big Dobbiaco or San Candido with walking town areas and dozens wellknown brands in markets. Important thing in winter is good road which is good for driving even after big snowfalls so you can be sure you come and return without problems both from Italy and Austria. As about local place inside village hotel is also situated very good. Both cross-country track and ski-lift are exactly near door of hotel so you can start your cross-country trip or alpine-skiing day immediately from hotel. Cross-country routes are very good and I can say they are absolutely high level - lenght and quality and sightseens are very good. Old people or novices can enjoy small (2-4 km) tracks or make one-way trip in San-Candido (11 km) with very simple way down without problem mountains (my mother who is 65 years old did it with pleasure) (to return you can use bus). Experience cross-country skiers can use more difficult routes from 10 to 50 or even more km lenght. Very good. The only minus may be can feel experience alpine skiers becouse of skiing area in Sesto is not so big as in some other places in Dolomites (and of course smaller then other areas in Austria). But for my family who was absolutely novice in alpine it was enough place to ski.
Very nice and friendly staff. I can say Rainer is best variant of family hotel - from one side nice warm atmosphere of family and from other side very professional and competent as in best big hotels. All common languages (including absolutely good Englich) but - it was really surprise for us - list of dishes in restourant in Russian specially for us (we are from Russia). A lot of additional service especially spa and children. And I should especially say about Joe who is alpine-skiing teacher and who learned our children (8 and 5 years old) do first steps. Joe is great children coach. He needed just one day to made super contact with children (remember children with other language and absolutely novices) and they became best friends after 9 days of learning. And important both children had success in learning and made first runs self and (most important) are enjoed learning and want to visit this (and exactly this) hotel and learn with friend Joe more and more :-).
Gastronomy
Good but not very good. There is some things to make better. First to know (in my opinion it doesnt decrease level but some people have other opinion) dishes are reasonable simple. You cant say restourant is gastronomic with very difficult dishes. But it is good restourant with domestic cousine. Chief is really good so both first and second course are tasty and really good. The only problem is with some starters. Sometimes they feel as not very fresh. But you can always choice starters which are good becouse there are a lot of possibilities to choose. Another small thing to (may be) improve is breakfast - every day same assortment. Good but exactly same. May be good idea to change something just to make it more interesting :-). Restourant area is quite good, staff also is very good. We also like bar area with nice fireplace. Wines are quite good (mostly from region South Tirol so we had chance to try some very good local wines).
Sport & Entertainment
Winter sport is super :-). A lot of possibilities both to serious activities and just for fanny games. For instance - nice toboggan mountain just 20 m from hotels - usually without skiers so you can just remember years when you were child. All my family - 3 small children, serious 40-years head of family with big stomach (it is me :-) ), my wife and my mother and babysitter - all enjoed very much. If you want more serious adventure you can try 5 km toboggan track. By the way you should no go with your sledges up - there is ski-lift which is good enough also for sledge. As about more serious skiing I wrote before... And also we tried trip in big sledge with horse... I can say - we spent there 10 days and every day we had very interesting programm. Wait! I didnt say abou swimming pool and sauna where we spent evenings from 5 to 7 every day. There are 3 swimming pools in hotel! One is open outdoor and I sit in warm water and have seen around on mountains and stars... Pleasure :-). Children playing room is also very big and good (we didnt use it very much just becouse spent most time on open air or in swimming pool but it is really useful). Only thing which can be better - internet access. There is wi-fi in hotel (free of charge) but only in reception area. It was slightly not convinient for me.
Room
No many words. Not very big (also not small - usual size for 4-stars hotel). Good balcony. Standard level mini-bar. In one word - good 4-stars level.
Tips and recommendations
I can say - very good choice for families with small (2-10 years old) children who want spend some days near nice nature with comfort and with possibilities for many different kinds of activities. Not best may be for young people who prefers more community with night life and so on or for people who prefers artifitial sightseens instead of nature (such as boutiques, architecture or painture and so on).
