Hotel Residenza Cannaregio

The hotel is easily reached from the airport (only one stop by the boat "Linea Arancio (orange =) to Madonna dell 'Orto, then a 10 minute walk). The hotel is located off the beaten track in Cannaregio, but since all neighborhoods are very attractive and worth exploring, you're at no disadvantage. Especially since it's only 20 minute's walk to the top attractions and in Venice the way is absolutely the path!

Very nice, very accommodating, whether front desk or kitchen.

The usual breakfast buffet. Not for the gourmet, it's just fine.

Large spacious rooms. But we had some bad luck: in front of our (otherwise very nice and spacious) room, directly above the entrance, there was a building site 2 meters away. The staff reassured us at first (it was Friday evening), that the construction would be suspended, but in a timely manner on Monday at 7:30 clock they began the hard work. The management offered us a dark room facing the courtyard to escape - we declined with thanks. Indeed we wanted to see the city and not stay in bed until noon. So we simply used the craftsmen as an alarm clock, no problem.

Some shops are within easy reach of the hotel, open daily until 20:00 clock. We were in Venice in early February, therefore, few tourists were traveling about, which strongly influenced the pleasantries of our trip, also the (nonexistent) queues at major museums. Despite the sunshine temperatures were, only between 0 and 5°C. Rubber boots are not needed. If the flood (usually only on full and new moon days) really reaches some extreme values the city builds some docks to circumvent them. We walked to all of the sights on foot. We took one day for every part of the city. The five days should be planned, so don't rush everything. Since Torcello and a ride on the Grand Canal are simply a must, we bought 36h ticket usable for all lines. That's cheaper than any trip individually. Going without a ticket is not worth it because the inspector are dressed as civilians and show up out of nowhere
