The pearl on the "garbage heap" Malia *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe entirely high quality furnished hotel had opened for its first season in 2009. It was in very good condition. It had 20 villas with private pool, 8 rooms and 2 twin flats. The hotel was designed barrier free. The rooms on the second floor were accessible by llift.
Location
The hotel was located on a lonely hill overlooking the town of Malia. It was just 2 minutes by car away from downtown. Malia could be easily forgotten, this was something like the summer resort for 'some' tourists. Accordingly, all the restaurants and the nightlife had adapted to the low niveau of 'some' tourists. These could be easily watched for 2-3 hours. There was much to laugh at.Afterwards enjoy the peace and the elegant atmosphere of the hotel. The pool area for only 10 rooms was designed very generously. Although this was also attended by non hotel guests (presumably friends of the hotel owners), there was always a vacant beach chair. From noon the international pop music played at the pool bar, and always stayed at a pleasant volume.
We immediately noticed that in Greece the service there was not similar training as in the German hotel trade. In particular, the waitresses at the pool bar were inattentive to ignorant. Instead of worrying about the concerns of the guests, they strudded around with heads held high for no apparent reason at the pool. The beach chairs were slammed right next to the guest on the ground and they liked to bicker once loudly among themselves while the guest waited to order a drink. Only basic English skills, the other languages not at all.The waiter at the breakfast buffet was different. He spoke English well and was very courteous. Like the concierge (supposedly the son of the owner). The room cleaning forgot to refill the shower gel and empty the trash in the bathroom once, but the rooms were kept otherwise neat and clean. The hotel owner should watch that strictly. Overall, not an international 5-star level but had room for improvement.

The hotel restaurant offered good food in quality and price. The menu card was international, and offered a pleasant alternation from the otherwise rather simple Greek cuisine. The room service was priced at a flat rate of 5 € for each use.
Sport & Entertainment
The pool was clean, neat and pleasant temperature. All furnishings were new and high quality. There were always enough beach chairs and umbrellas available. The spa was superior without doubt. Overall, everything was perfect.
Room
The modern and high quality furnished rooms all had a fully functional kitchen. Furthermore, there was a flat screen TV, telephone, safe, air conditioner, coffee machine, balcony with pool, ocean view. WLan internet was available throughout the premises free of charge. The rooms were in all aspects an international 5-star level.
Tips and recommendations
Since we had our own kitchen, at the supermarket on the way from the city to the hotel all necessities needed were sold cheaply. Just before crossing the main road through Malia in the direction of Heraklion, Agios Nicolaos the right side of the street was a decent Greek restaurant, which seemed for some guests located happily too far away from their rooms. The Malia beach could easily be avoided, as it was not more beautiful than at the pool there anyway. The 30 kms distant Aghios Nicolaos was mostly worth an evening visit. To Heraklion, however, one could truly make a wide detour.
