Atmosphere, peace, nature and friendly people *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AAbout the location of the hotel enough factually has been described. To highlight was the great, reserved, factual atmosphere (lights, furniture, design) of the public rooms (lounge, bars, reception, hallways, etc.). The whole outer area was maintained a lot by quite a lot of staff members (2-3 gardeners, 1-2 pool attendants).
Location
Also here everything had really been said.
To Playa del Duque (to the left ober the beach promenade about 10 minutes on foot) or La Caleta (to the right over the beach promenand , up a hill, down a hill, right across the beach and uphill again about 30 minutes on foot).
Both was better by taxi (left: about 3.50 Euros - right: about 3 Euros - in the evenings plus about 1 Euro).
For evening excursions or shopping excursions to Las Americas please plan on about 25.00 - 30.00 Euros for the taxi (there and back).
A visit there in our opinion was only worth it after nightfall anyway (a tip: the restaurant: Star of Asia - Indian kitchen - directly in the restaurant of the Las Americas).
There was never a reason to complain. Altough the service level couldn't reach the standard of equal (five star) hotels in Asia respectively USA and Caribbean.
Especially positive was the helpfulness of all the staff (especially at reception - also here all the staff with excellent German language skills as well as German staff members).
Also we liked the room service (a huge help during a move) as well as the "bellboy" for taxi reservations, suitcase storrage, etc.
The bellboy deserved an especial praise (everything, always and optimally cleaned, maintained and completed - like: soap, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, water bottles, etc.).
Gastronomy
We only used the breakfat. As often mentioned everything was available whereas every day some offers changed.
As usual with such buffets a few offers weren't as good as freshly prepared (for example scrambled eggs) but you were able to get egg dishes prepared.
Careful: the coffee from the various machines tasted quite differently. The best quality one in our opinion the machine to the left offered (if you came from the reception -inside- onto the terrace -outside-).
Sport & Entertainment
* no entertainment (bar music was quite tired)
* no sport (if you wanted you could use the muscle-booth)
* pool (very neat - freshwater as well as also saltwater were faultless - showers enough - also changing roons and toilets behind the pool bar)
* lying area (also with shadow spots, cushions, umbrellas, bath towels alright and enough available (altough estimated the hotel was only about 40% full).
* to be very recommended: the usage of the Spa (complete relaxation - we were even the only guests)
Room
At first we had a corner room (247) with a view of the RIU hotel, afterwards because of a disagreement with our travel agent (Jahn-Reisen) an upgrade from the hotel management to a Club-Room (538) with a direct ocean view.
The rooms were nearly identicle (conditioned to the building style the straight layout was a bit bigger, also the balconies).
For the furniture the rooms were really quite big enough.
Tips and recommendations
Desperately try: Dinner in the "Restaurant La Caleta" (in La Caleta - directly over the rocks at the sea - super tasty fishes dishes - tip: grilles Sama = red snapper - or common sole - both about 12.00 Euros). Also good: "Rosso sul mare" (quite hip - but good - noudles, pizza, etc.). Or. "La Torre del Mirador" (in Playa del Duque) - also here great fish dishes but also the best meat dishes (Tournedos in gorgonzola). Not so good because much to small dishes: the "La Hacienda" in Playa del Duque (the ones with the light blue shirts and trousers). Don't miss: Hir car and excursions to * Los Gigantes with Masca and Buenavista del Norte * Teide national park from the south over Granadilla de Abona and Vilaflor and even greater: * Teide national park from the west over Santiago de Teide an past Chio
