The hotel is built unlovingly and illogical. On the windless side of the hotel are no seats (or a bar). All balconies lead to the windy side, so you cannot sit outside as it is too cold and it rains on your balcony, so you cannot let your towels outside to dry. (And it rained almost every night when I was there) I cannot understand (as well as all the other people I talked to during my stay) why the hotel has so many good reviews on the internet, there is nothing good about it at all. It is definitely overrated!!

Location

The beach is nothing special, it's rather small and it is always very very windy. Before 10 am and after 3 pm it's not pleasant to stay on the beach any more because it's simply too cold. It is extremely windy and the tiny wind shelters they have in front of some beach chairs are quite useless. There is no bar outside (too cold). Don't believe the travel guides that say that in high season the weather will be nice. If you look at the trees (no palms, too windy) you can tell that it's windy the whole year through. And there is no beach bar on this side of the coast, should tell you everything. In the surroundings of the hotel there is nothing to do, it's extremely boring.

Service

The staff is not really friendly (except for a few), especially Dan, who is supposed to take care of the guests, is a really rude and unfriendly person who harasses guests all the time. He should be fired! The staff's knowledge of languages is very poor. The cleaning boys are not really on the ball as well. They want to make your room shortly after 8 am (hello? I'm on holiday and would like to sleep longer) and even when your "do not disturb - sign" is outside, they knock on your door. I was also woken up at 3 am by so-called security men who wanted to inform me that my balcony door is open. Of course, I opened it myself. That's obviously frowned upon. And they are terrible at handling complaints. After I complaint about my loud room (couldn't sleep because every night there were storms and my room was under a ribbed roof) they gave me an even louder room near an electricity plant which was permanently making a very loud humming noise.

Gastronomy

Suns

There is only one bar which serves only 5 alcoholic cocktails. No beach bar. Sometimes you don't get what you ask for. The food is always the same, the choise of fruit is very poor (kiwi, banana). Type of cuisine: Creole, Indian, if you don't like curry, there are not many alternatives.

Sport & Entertainment
1.0
Suns

There is no entertainment at all. People are bored to death or get drunk to overcome their boredom. In 4 weeks they had only once the green flag out that allowed you to go swimming. So they were not very keen on giving you paddleboats, they preferred not to work (red flag). The pool is very small, right in front of the restaurant (who wants to see half-naked people while eating?) and the water is extremely cold. Didn't see anybody swimming there (very few exceptions) TOO COLD! The evening entertainment is very loud music, you can't even have a conversation, TOO LOUD! And it's more or less always the same.

Room
2.0
Suns

Size and cleanliness OK. But the balcony is rather useless, too windy to sit outside and it rains on it. Air-conditioning available, but of no use since the temperatures are low. Everything is loud (toilet flush, water, electricity humming, random noises), the light is too bad to read in your room.

Tips and recommendations

Don't travel to Mauritius. The island itself and the hotel are totally overrated. There is nothing special to see on the island and temperatures are low, even if the travel guide says something different. Everybody I spoke to was of the same opinion. It's a good place to get depressions.
