Great hotel on a wonderful island *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe hotel was located in Negril on 7-Miles Beach. The area was located in a tropical garden, with about 300 rooms on several 1 - to 2-floor buildings were divided. The entire area (including sports) seemed extremely clean and neat. The Swept Away offered an exclusive and extensive all-inclusive service, but without the usual armband. The majority of tourists (probably over 90%) came from the USA but other nationalities, like Germans, French or the Austrians were occasionally met.
Location
The destination airport was Montego Bay. The hotel had a lounge at the airport where the staff took care of the bags and served cool drinks. Due to difficulties at arrival we arrived one day later in Montego Bay. But there were, however no difficulties with the check-in at the hotel. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was about 1.5 hours and turned out to be very pleasant in a minibus with friendly drivers and reggae. The Swept Away was located on the 7-Miles-Beach, with the bungalows located directly on the ocean front, the farthest were located near the main road. Negril offered a variety of entertainment options. Many bars had live Reggae music on location. There was a shuttle every Wednesday from the hotel to Margaritaville. Taxis in the city cost about 100 Jamaican dollars.
The service could be described as very good from our point of view. The rooms were cleaned daily, the beds were turned down in the evening and a "Thought of the night" was waiting on the pillow. The staff was always very friendly and courteous. Additional services such as a laundry and a doctor in the hotel were always available.

Several restaurants and bars were distributed through the area which in our opinion served all high-quality food and drinks (especially also cocktails). For the restaurants, "Lemon Grass" and "Feathers" a reservation was necessary. In every restaurant in the evening a multi-course a la carte menu was served, at lunch there was a buffet at the "Palms" or snacks in the various bars. The breakfast in the "Palms" was very large (from champagne and salmon up to ackee with saltfish), in the "Patois" there was an a la carte breakfast menu. Whoever wanted, could also have breakfast served in the room (especially practical when planning excursions and had to leave early). You must try, in any case, the typical "Jerk food" in all variations. We were particularly impressed by seafood and fish (snapper), which was always prepared very tasty.
On the beach we could always get free drinks or when a green flag was set up the served directly at the beach chair.
Sport & Entertainment
The beach was a dream. Fine-grained, white sand and crystal clear water. Plenty of beach chairs were always available. Beach towels were provided by the hotel (also could leave at home). The beach chair cushions could also be used as an air mattress. The hotel's beach was guarded by security staff. Beach vendors and musicians were udnerway, if there was anything to buy, a simple "No, thanks" was usually enough.
During the day there was an extensive entertainment program (hat weaving, salsa classes, volleyball, etc.) which we hardly used. Was particularly pleasing to us that activities were offered but not overly persuasive. Also all kinds of water sports (diving, water skiing, pedal boats, etc.) were offered on the beach. Played in the evenings at the Palms there was always a live band playing, with dancing at various events in the bars, which we did not visit. Once a week there was a beach party.
Furthermore, the hotel had a large sports area with tennis courts, lap swimming pool and gym area. There were also various courses such as yoga, workout, etc. offered. In the spa area anyone could be pampered with massages, etc. (we did not try). There was also a shuttle to the golf course outside of Negril.
Room
We had a beach front superior room with a beautiful terrace. As the name already suggested, this room category was directly on the beach, so we watched the sunset from our room and listened to the waves. The room itself was had a very open design - wooden blinds (behind glass or fly screens). Air conditioner and ventilator were available - were not necessary as it cooled off in the evening and we could sleep great. The room was equipped with a king size bed, minibar, safe, telephone and coffee machine. The storage space in our opinion, with one closet was somewhat limited, but adequate.
Tips and recommendations
For all internet fans, the hotel's own WLAN network (also inclusive) was fine. If anyone wanted to take an excursion, in our opinion a reservation with John & Anita was highly recommendable (already at home). It was a very private drive and reached the destinations so that we were away from the crowds. We had previously thought about sand flies and mosquitoes. We saw no sand flies. There were surprisingly few mosquitoes and the mosquito repellent (Nobite, off) kept them nicely away.
If somebody wanted to experience church "once differently" we would like highly recommend to visit the Gospel Church in Negril - a great experience that should not be missed. For horse riding fans Rhodes Hall was recommendable.
