Good fun for kids - not for romantic adult trip
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A ALarger beach hotel run in a western hotel chain style.
Seems to mainly attract mainly families (Aussies and Kiwis) with kids, therefore not a good pick for travelling couples - loud / hectic and entertainment focused on youngsters.
Good facilities with four restaurants, pools, beach, bar / nightclub and shops.
Location
Rather remotely located to airports on the coral coast.
Be aware that sea has strong tides here - i.e. the beach rather vanishes at high tides whereas the sea is only very limited accessible at low tides.
Other than the hotel offerings not much to do / see around if not taking a taxi for a mimimum 30 min. trip.
In general staff is always friendly and greets everybody with a happy "Bula" - with the exception of the grumpy receptionist we had for check out.
However service levels are really below expectations.
Laundry was mixed up with somebody elses when returning.
Two out of three days we had to chase people to get beach towels - which should be exchanged in the room every day.
In a restaurant we had to wait some 25 minutes before somebody took the time to take our orders. A glas of water took another 30 minutes and required two chase ups - we are still waiting for another water ...
Drink from the minibar was not refilled.
Gastronomy
As mentioned the hotel is clearly targeting families. Therefore the breakfast in the larger restaurant was not much fun with lots of noise and kids running around - obviously a positive aspect should you travel in family.
Buffet breakfast itself was good, but regularly glassess were missing for the juice and fresh water was not located at the official buffet.
We only tried the seafood restaurant which is nicely located on a kind of littel island with tables directly overlooking fish in the sea below. When entering they ask you to do a "kava-light" ceremony which is a nice idea. We would have expected much more variety or a changing suggestion of the day. Quite frustrating was that they did not have the "catch of the day" two days in a row. Not wanting to speculate it still raises the question how much of the food is really fresh from the sea the same day. Also you would not expect a Tex Mex Grill in Fiji ...
Wine list is decent - no particular highlights, but some nice suggestions to accompany the meal - and very reasonably prices.
Sport & Entertainment
Many things are offered, from group entertainments for kids to kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing introduction and horseriding on the beach.
Unfortunately all this again only targeting at adolescents. Limiting free snorkeling equipment to only 20 minutes is as much a joke for adults as the very limited area you are allowed to kayak in - better stick to your books.
Sunbeds available at the pools, in the garden and on the beach.
Room
Well equiped room with minibar, safe, TV, balcony and coffe / tea making facility meating the expectations for such kind of hotel.
Tips and recommendations
Can highly recommend the one day tour to a Fiji native village with boadride and swimming at a waterfall - lots of fun and very attractive insights into the historical culture.
