Relaxing family holiday *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AVery nice, Nubian-style hotel, huge, very well-tended garden area. Ideal hotel for a family holiday, as there were family rooms available which consisted of two double rooms with connecting door.
Most guests were from Belgium, France and Germany, mixed age structure.
Location
The hotel was about 30 minutes away from the airport. We didn't notice any fly-over noise, though. El Gouna was beautiful and very well-tended. To get downtown, you had to walk 5 minutes. You found really nice strolling areas and shopping facilities there. There was a bus to the harbour, without any problems.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, most of them spoke English and German too.
The rooms were always cleaned properly and thouroughly, there were figures made of towels most of the time.
After having complained about the poorly working air conditioner, they immediately tried to fix it, but unfortunately failed. We could move to other rooms right away, which was quite suprising to us, since it was high season and we'd booked family rooms.
The staff was really friendly and made a great effort to make us happy.
Gastronomy
There were a main restaurant, a small restaurant and the Plaza, as well as two speciality restaurants we didn't try.
The food was good and rich, the choice OK. It was regularly refilled, even when we came there late.
Everything was very clean and neat here too. The main restaurant was quite loud and crowded, of course, but that was most probably normal during high season.
Sport & Entertainment
We didn't make use of the entertainment programme, but there were enough offerings. The pools were really beautiful and well-tended. It was just a shame that there were always people reserving pool chairs with towels, even though there were plenty of chairs available. Unfortunately, the hotel management didn't do anything about it despite of complaints.
There was a beautiful lagoon right next to the hotel, where it was really nice to swim. The beach could be reached by hotel shuttle which drove there every hour. It was really beautiful there, and the sea was very flat. The facilities there were as good as at the pool, there was a grill as well as a shower/toilet.
Room
We'd booked a family room which consisted of two double rooms and a connecting door. Both rooms were big enough, we even had two bathrooms, which was very convenient for 4 people. Everything was clean and tidy, but the furniture already looked a bit older. The air conditioner was very good, but a little loud.
Tips and recommendations
The price-performance ratio in this hotel was really very good. Since we were there in high summer, it was very hot, of course, but it was easily tolerable because of the constant wind. We highly recommend to stroll through downtown and to spend an evening at the harbour. We also very much liked the Oasis party which took place every monday evening in the desert.
