Nice hotel in a great location *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThis was a family hotel with beautiful architecture. There was a main building in which the reception and the large dining room were. On the back of the hotel was another smaller dining room. The rooms were located in individual blocks which each consisted of three floors. The condition was okay, you could detect small flaws in the bathroom which developped over the years. You should never forget how many people use the rooms every year... Otherwise, the hotel was clean. As already mentioned, there were nearly only families in the hotel. During our holiday period, the guests came mostly from Germany.
Location
The hotel had a beautiful location. Over steps, you directly got to the beautiful bathing bay. The water was crystal-clear and turquoise. Wonderful!!! We could let our 3 year old son play at the water unhesitatingly since the water remained shallow for a relatively long time. In the immediate vicinity, there were two supermarkets, a German butcher's and a restaurant. Otherwise nothing. We had a rental car for the week and it was very worth it. If only due to the transfer time from and to the airport (about 2 hours). Less than 1 hour with the car. We also visited the Cuevas del Drach in Porto Christo. It was very nice. Moreover, all the little bays south from the Cala Mesquita were worth visiting. As well as the small towns outside the tourist bustle.
Check-in was without any problems. But they didn't bring our bags into our room. Minus point! Not that I couldn't carry the bags myself but this was always natural in 4 stars hotels I visited before. The room cleaning was okay but they didn't clean on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Opposite the hotel area was a doctor which we didn't have to visit fortunately. I can only give a neutral assessment about the friendliness of the hotel staff, I've met nicer but also unfriendlier people. I would like to stress out the caretaker positively, he was immediately there when we needed him... our key broke off in the lock. So be careful with the keys!
Gastronomy
To the food, I first have to say that guests with a turquoise ribbon ate breakfast and dinner in the small restaurant while you ate lunch in the large dining room in the main building. As a guest with a purple ribbon, you always ate in the main building. Probably due to reasons of space. But I don't know who determined who ate where. We only heard that after talking with other guests. Some kind of two-tier society. In my opinion, that should have been mentioned more openly by the receptionists at check-in. That way, you felt second-class. The food was not outstanding in general, little choice, little change, little taste. We had much better food in 4 stars hotels.
Sport & Entertainment
We didn't take part in the activities. Something that attracted attention was that there was practically no toddler area in the pool. If you disregarded the small pools (about 1.5 meters in diameter, about 50 centimeters deep) in which it could get relatively cramped. Especially if the kids played there with their water wings and everything you like to take with you into the water. That disappointed me a bit especially in consideration of the title "family hotel".
Room
I was taken with the rooms. We had booked a flat. Very large, very large balcony which you could enter from the living room and from the bedroom. It was relatively badly soundproofed as in every hotel. But we were still lucky. Our room was to the street and was therefore more quiet than the rooms with pool view. There, the evening activities took place on the large stage... The beds were very comfortable.
Tips and recommendations
A rental car was recommended (we paid 138 euros for a week for a Volkswagen Caddy). It was definitely worth it since there was actually nothing to be seen in the directy surrounding area of the hotel. Moreover, I would recommend a visit of the Cuevas del Drach of Porto Christo.
