Approx 40 rooms, 3 stories. About 100years old. Cleanliness service and food served was excellent. Comfortable lounge with log fire. Staff very anxious to please their guests.
Good age range of guests from young adults to senior citizens. No children whilst we were their but probably because not in school holidays. We have stayed their for nine consecutive years for skiing holiday. The hotel gets lots of repeat bookings. Furnishings a bit dated but well polished and good of their type

Wonderful views of the surrounding mountains from the front of the hotel. No views to the rear. Five mins walk to the centre of Wengen. Taxi not necessary. Station for railway 5 mins walk. Cinema with English films on one or two nights a week in Village. A number of bars nearby and dinner can be taken in two other sister hotels in the village if half board guests wish. No vehicles in village except electric buggies and very light vans for traders. Berne airport is 40 mins coach ride from Lauterbrunnen and the train trip from there to Wengen is approx 15 mins. on rack railway. Ski lift nearby. Ski runs can also be accessed on the frequent rack railway trains from the station.

The manager and staff are very helpful and do all they can to make guests feel comfortable and welcome. Nearly all the staff have some English and the senior management can all speak adequate English. A shuttle buggy to and from the village is available if needed to meet trains and bring luggage to and from the station and to take guests to the ski lifts. Staff very competent. A laundry service is offered.

One very pleasant restaurant. Good views from the front windows. Comfortable bar adjacent. A full range of drinks offered including house wines. Once a week a Farmers Buffet is served. Otherwise dinner service is at the table. Menu is varied and excellent. Always a vegetarian option. Breakfasts always include a cooked breakfast option and is buffet style. Cleanliness and hygiene is excellent. The cuisine is a mix of local and international. Atmosphere is pleasant and quiet. Dress is (for dinner) smart casual. For breakfast very informal.

There is a ski room which is heated. There is also a sauna available (we did not use so cannot comment). Ther are no other sports facilities. No swimming pool. Guests spend evenings reading in the comfortable lounge or chatting over a drink to fellow guests. Not much for young people at the hotel. There is internet access available. There are no boutiques there or child care facilities. Wengen tends to attract an older clientelle as a resort and the hotel perhaps reflects this.

Rooms are comfortable and pleasant whilst being furnished in a perhaps old fashioned way. This gives the hotel character however rather than it just being blandly like all other hotels. The heating is excellent. We did not need airconditioning- it was January!
There are tea/coffee making facilities in each room. There is a safe telephone and TV (with English programmes) hair dryer, power points and a minibar in each room. The linen and towels are of good quality. Towels changed daily. Beds were comfortable. There were plenty of mirrors and the ensuite bathrooms have bath with shower over, two washbowls and WC and shaver point and heated towel rail. The room was newly decorated and kept very clean by the staff. Bathroom was a little bit small. Our room had a lovely balcony, large with two armchairs and a great view of the Jungfrau mountain.

Tips and recommendations

Mobile phone worked-(vodafone.) The hotel was very good value. It is closed in May and late autumn. We have only visited for Winter Sports when best time is January to March.
