Gloriously situated Alpine hotel
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThere are 40 rooms in this older Swiss chalet style building which has an immaculate restaurant serving all meals. The Mangement is very hands-on and nothing is too much trouble. It cares for the youger generation for its winter season and a more mature generation for the summer who come for walking and scenic visits.
Location
The hotel is perched on a cliff some 1000 feet above the Lauterbrunnen Valley and offers spectacular views over the valley and up to the snow covered chain of mountains. It is reached via a rack and pinion railway from Lauterbrunne which connects with the Swiss Railway system. The town is virtually traffic-free. There are many other hotels in Wengen ,two of which are in the same ownership.
It is difficult to fault any part of the team managing the hotel all of whom speak at least three languages. The is a wealth of information on local facilities and walks. It is so well run that many people return year after year.
Gastronomy
There is one large restaurant with a separate window annex. Meals are usually part of the package and the cuisine is International with a Swiss/German bias.
Sport & Entertainment
There is little in the way of organised tours though the town has facilities for winter sports and wellness options. Most hiking is "do-it-yourself".
Room
All rooms are spacious with en-suite facilities. The hotel is a Relais de Silence member so there is plenty of peace and quiet. The hotel has a pleasant lounge and bar.
Tips and recommendations
Go prepared for mountain weather even in summer. Take good boots...!
