Hotel Wengener Hof

The hotel has excellent views of the Alps and the Lauterbrunnen Valley, and is within 5 minutes' walk of the mountain railway station, but we do not hear any noise from the station. It is a short walk from shops and restaurants, but far enough to avoid any noise and bustle. It is a long train ride from the nearest international airport.

We have always found the staff helpful and friendly. Some of the junior staff are new and are still getting used to the job, but they never let us down. When we asked for different bed clothes from those originally provided, we received them quickly.

There is one restaurant and one bar. As far as I know there is no "a la carte" menu in the restaurant. But we have found all the food excellent, both at dinner and breakfast. They are also very good at ensuring that the quantity of food at dinner is enough but not too much. The selection of drinks meets all our needs.

The Wengenerhof does not provide much of this. It has a small library and a comfortable lounge. Since we were looking for a comfortable base to explore the area, and also a place to rest and relax, we had no problem with this.

We have usually had a standard room, which does not have a balcony. But we have always had a clean and comfortable room with a nice decor, and everything in the room has always worked smoothly. We had a TV, minibar and a kettle on most visits. We especially liked having 2 wash basins in our bathroom, as it meant we could wash at the same time. Our room met the usual high Swiss standards of hygiene and tidiness, and we had not problems with noise.

We have always stayed at this hotel in June, which we have found a very good time to enjoy the surrounding area. Like all of Switzerland it is becoming more expensive, but for now it is still very good value for money.
