Great German hospitality
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe hotel is quintessential German. When the taxi arrived out front it felt like we were going back in time. The architecture of the hotel is fantastic, as was many of hte other buildings in the Oberstrasse.
Our rooms were spacious, very clean and had everything we needed. Large bathroom, double bed, clean and spacious. We stayed in the guesthouse section which was a renovated old style German house with the pitched roof, backing onto a vineyard.
Location
A short walk to the river, Panoramaweg and other restaurants, Zum Grünen Kranz is very well located. It is a couple of minutes from the railway station or river boat station so it is centrally located in the town. The surroundings were absolutely beautiful when we were there - snow covering practically the entire town, it felt like we were in the middle of a fairy tale. FRom the walks above the town, you have a commanding view to the river and beyond.
Staff were very friendly but not intrusive which is pretty much perfect. When we arrived, we were given a complimentary Glühwein and sat down in the hotel.
Gastronomy
I recommend the Weinbaurnschnitzel - I bet not many people will fit it in but it was everything I expected in a large, German dinner. Absolutely brilliant. The restaurant was fairly quite when we were there. Great experience and the weiβier and local wine was really, really good. The hotel is spotlessley clean and well set out. We felt very comfortable the entire time we were there.

Room
Spacious, very clean and very cheap. The price of the rooms are so good compared to the city hotels. You get so much for your money.
Tips and recommendations
Mobile phone access / coverage is great - we had no problems at all. We travelled in the winter which is a really beatiful time to go if you like the snow. The landscape covered in snow is something to remember.
I have been to the Rhine in Summer as well so any time of the year would be great. I just love Germany!
