"Zur Zwiebel" - great value for money *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A ANo folderol, no marble in the foyer, no lift - solid, functional construction, the rooms were large enough, clean, new - no children's playground, but who wants to play inside the hotel, if the beach is just a few kilometres away ?
The condition and the development of the town of Peenemuende is not accurate for the historic importance. Something should be done by the country and the EU. 99.-€ for 3 nights and half-board - that was the opportunity for us to get back to the Baltic Sea and we were not disappointed.
Location
Harbour with pubs and submarine (really narrow - only for people without claustrophobia) only a few minutes away, the museums are very interesting but also have steep admission fees. The airport is worth a visit, an old Russian MIG and some machines from East Germany - no highlight, but good for rainy days. The natural beach between Peenemuende and Karlshagen (paid parking on the street) is highly recommended. Otherwise a group of 4 people can buy a train ticket for 28 .-€ and can travel around all day, even to Poland.
We have only seen one waiter when the hotel was fully booked, one maid and the splendid chef - all three are experts in the area.
Nothing else needs to be said.
Gastronomy
We were looking forward to breakfast every day - honey, cheese, bacon, cold cuts, eggs, fresh rolls and coffee - what more could you want?
Dinner has 2 choices fish or meat which were exquisite - big compliment the young chef. Another thank you to the waiter, with his nordic straightforward manner.
