La Voile d'Or - incredibly poor personnel
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AHaving arrived at 9 p.m. after 1.000 km of driving the young woman at the concièrge's desk refused my wish for a 30 minute's rest on the hotel's terrace as she first wanted to have the formalities done. Thereafter another young women of the hotel's restaurant approched to make sure that we immediately decided about our dinner because the restaurant was about to close (at 9:30 p.m.!!!). Result: a tensed atmosphere from the start.
After having refreshed ourselves we took place at a table on the terrace with a wonderful view over the sea. The food was o.k., the drinks as well and the Maître wasn't too bad too. But his friendlyness was fake and he wasn't amused in no way when I asked him for a degustation of the wine I was thinking about to order. The rest of the restaurants stuff is relatively young, not very friendly overall and don't offer the skills you are used and can expect from places like this.
As I myself am suffering from some allergies I had to aske for diatery requirements that were fullfilled in perfect. But what a shame: as the personnel obviously believed that no one of us had any idea of the French language they were joking about my problems behind our backs until they realized us. Saying "bon jour" to one of the waitresses was answered by turning the head away, the table on the room's balcony wasn't cleaned althoug there were some sticky traces from a bottel of champaign, actually the hotel's bar closes at midnight and at that time life at La Voile d'or stopps completely not even a room servie is offered any more.
If you have a complaint the consièrge claims himself to be not responsible and doesn't offer you any help; he refers you to another desk only and there you have the chance to be offended if you're unlucky as we were.
All that might sound unbelievably and one might have the idea that guests that have been treated like this must have misbehaved in a very serious way. Believe me we haven't. I have been to many very well know places with really high standards and I was very welcomed in every hotel - until I came to La Voile d'Or. Although it is a wonderful place indeed, the stuff is cheap beyond believe.
Résumé: I was dying to see this place and I have. But after all we've experienced at LA Voile d'Or I will go there never ever! And I can give the good advice only: stay away!
