Relaxation and pure indulgence in Alamarena *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe hotel was a three story building and not as big as the surrounding hotels. In the morning the whole hotel area was wiped and the pool area (including the poolchairs) were hosed off!!! Though some of the poolchairs were already taken very early in the morning by guests who put their towels on them, there were enough poolchairs to always find a good spot either in the sun or the shade.
In the hotel we met almost exclusively other Germans. The reception staff spoke and understood German very well. In the hotel you could book day trips, catamaran cruises, trips to Lanzarote, or rent a car.
Entertainment was offered, and wasn't pushy at all. You could do quizzes, play shuffleboard, darts, or do archery or just enjoy a good book under an umbrellas.
Location
The transfer from the airport to the hotel took 2 hours and one could get a first impression of Fuerteventura. The front of the hotel was located at the street which goes through Jandia. If you crossed the street, you could enjoy the various shopping facilities (jewelery, cigaretts, parfum (everything is very cheap but be careful with the small import quota), restaurants, clothes stores.
When leaving the hotel area at the hotel bar, it was only about 50 - 100 meters to the beach. Unlike in other hotels, you didn't have to cross a street or walk through a tunnel to get there.
Turning left, you could walk, run or stroll for about 2,5 km along the beach until you reached the Hotel Iberostar where the beach got rocky. Walking in the right direction, you would reach in about 1 km the little town Morro Jable. You could also walk to Morro along a promenade. There are some shops and nice restaurants. The harbour was not really worth watching. You could rent sunshades and poolchairs at the beach. The water was very clear and you didn't have to be afraid of sea urchins, rocks or corals. You didn't need bathing shoes. The beach in Jandia was fantastic!!!
The staff at the reception desk, the restaurant or the bars were always very friendly, helpful and very quick and most of the time they were smiling and greeted us with a friendly word.
Gastronomy
We had booked all-inclusive. Breakfast was served from 8.00h -10.30h, lunch from 13.00h - 14.30h and diner from 18.00h - 21.30h. With the offered softdrinks and aloholic drinks (beer and wine) we could help ourselves and re-fill them as often as we wanted. The food was very voluminous and there were always diffrent kinds of meat and fish, lots of vegetables, pasta, rice stew, potatoes and chips. There was also a huge buffet of cheese, salad and desserts, lots of fruit and different kinds of bread. Everything was delicious and it also looked nicely :-). The chooks re-filled almost empty boxes immediately and every tiny crumb or blot got taken care of right away. Dishes and cutlery were perfect. For breakfast they also served softdrinks, cacao and different coffee variations. The quality of the latter can not be compared with the one at home, of course, but that cannot be expected, i think. They served all different kinds of eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese and also warm dishes already. Diffrent kinds of bread, toast and rolls weren't missing either.
You could get water in 0,5l-bottels after breakfast and then for the whole day until midnight. At 11.00h drinks, sandwiches and hotdogs were served at the poolbar, which was totally all-inclusive. At 15.00h you could get cake. The poolbar closed at 18.00h and with it at 20.00h the exit to the beach. But another bar opened at 18.00h, which was open until 24.00h. You could get softdrinks, alcoholic national drinks and cocktails and nuts there while being entertained by decent evening entertainment shows.
Sport & Entertainment
There were two pools and one for babies and a childrens pool. As mentioned above, the pool and the surrounding area got cleaned daily. The poolchairs were very lightweight and very comfortable. You could get or change towels at the reception for a deposit or a little charge, I think (we brought our own towels from home). There were lots of umbrellas around the pool area and everybody could get the spot he or she preferred. Even though the hotel was completely booked, the atmosphere at the pool was pleasant. We didn't check out the entertainment and sports program. We just wanted to relax, read and take walks on the beach. That's why we can't really comment on the entertainment and sport program.
However, you could perfectly walk or jog on a paved street into the directon of the hotel Iberostar and then into the direction of Morro Jable ( with a little hill to climb up :-)).
This walk was about 7 km and was a nice little variation to the daily relaxation on the pool.
Room
We booked a superior room with pool view and during our whole stay we were amazed about how clean the room was all the time. We didn't find any dust either on the glazed tiles in our room nor on the balcony. There were two single beds that you could easily put together, a huge closet, a safe, a tv (lots of German channels), a telephone and a couch that could be turned into another bed. From the balcony (2 chairs, 1 table, a clothes horse) you could see the hotel area from behind with the pool, palm trees and the pool bar.
Tips and recommendations
You should definately book all-inclusive. We were totally satisfied in the hotel Altamarena (that's why we reviewed all categories as very good) and we got back home totally relaxed but sad. We met lots of people who had spent their holidays there several times. I am sure we'll be able to say that one day too.
