This establishment just seemed to show how low the 'exalted' middle classes could sink. There were four blocks A-D, of which three were full of the charm of the concrete blocks reminiscent of the 70s. Inside, the hotels had a very communist East European feel about them. There was plenty of space, but everything was spartanly decorated and not very inviting.

In any case, the clientele really suited the hotel - and that isn't a compliment. Horrifically annoying, loud, drunken package tourists from several countries (Germany and Russian were the worst perpetrators). Perfect combination. Having a high BMI seemed to unite them all and it was obvious not just to the eye but to the nose that all the food on offer was full of fat. In my opinion there were two advantages to the Russians above the other - firstly you couldn't understand their conversations and secondly they at least tended to bring attractive women with them.

All in all it was just a mystery to me how anyone could travel to this hotel more than once. Perhaps because when you got back from there, no matter where you lived, home looked so much better?!

Location

What location? Ok, so the stretch of beach was at least fairly long, but it was narrow that the guests in the forth row were crammed in like sardines in a can. Though to be honest it didn't seem to bother them at all.

If you actually left the complex then you discovered a romantic tarred street, which offered up loads of places to shop about 600m down. And in fact there still were loads of excited holidaymakers who wanted to buy fake Ed Hardy gear.

Service
4.0

Most of the staff made the best out of their situation. They at least seemed to be trained, and many were very nice. In any case, when you first see the complex from outside, perfect service is not what springs to mind. And why should it? Most of the guests wouldn't have even noticed.

I thought it was worth mentioning that the majority of the staff could make at least small talk in both Russian and Germany. Definitely more than most of the guests!

Gastronomy

Suns

Wow, was it actually good food? Sad meat in some flat sauce with over-cooked vegetables? Floppy chips, enhanced by artfully splashed mayonnaise and ketchup? Red and white wines that made you dream wistfully of watered-down box wine?

The surroundings were also great. About 5% of the seats were outside, the others were situated in cantinesque surroundings with glaring lights.

One exception was the fish restaurant on the beach in the open air. We had to reserve a day early, but the was really good, grilled fish on offer and a great atmosphere. In my opinion this was the only decent option. The best plan would be to go every evening instead of taking part in the mass feed...

Sport & Entertainment
4.0
Suns

Well, 4 star entertainment in a 4 star hotel. They tried, but didn't do too well - but they did try.

The pools on the other hand were flawless - truly the best part of the whole complex.

Room
2.0
Suns

Small - really small. And if you'd ordered an extra bed as well then small became tiny. The room quality really varied - I found block b to be worn out, dark and barely acceptable. Block c was never, but obviously built from the cheaper materials available. But ok for a week. If possible you should insist on block d, which was the newest and most peaceful. Otherwise after one night you'll be convinced that bad sound proofing in combination with the open air disco isn't the best formula for a good night's sleep.

On the other hand, the cleaning service was great.

Tips and recommendations

1) Don't book this hotel
2) If you booked already, hopefully just one week
3) Insist on a room in Block D
4) Always eat in the fish restaurant in the evening
5) Take nice people with you so you can make your own evening plans
6) Never try to scrimp on stars again next time.
