Excellent hotel at the outskirts of the city
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A ALarge, but still rather cosy business hotel with nice rooms and good food. The hotel gives a very clean impression. The environment is very dull.
Location
We visited Mercure Hotel Groningen Martiniplaza from 13-15 Februar 2010. Since March 2009 it has been completely renovated and makes a prefect impression. The hotel has 8 floors and 157 rooms, a large entrance hall, a rather large restaurant and a cosy bar, all in very good condition. It is situated near the A7 motorway, about 2 km from the pleasant city centre and about three bus stops from the Central Train Station (less than 10 min). A taxi drive is 10 euro. The hotel’s neighbourhood is dull and uninspiring.
Check inn and check out went very smoothly and staff was very helpful in answering our questions
Gastronomy
The warm and cold breakfast buffet is very good with a variety of bread, cheese, meat products, yoghurt, cereals, jams, etc, but no fresh juices. We had an all inn offer, but when you have to pay for the breakfast, 15 euro is rather pricey. We had dinner once, which was delicious and at a reasonable price. The waitresses were all very kind.
Bar and restaurant are very clean.
Sport & Entertainment not available
Room
The room we occupied (610, with a view on the roofs of the surrounding buildings and the motorway) was large with an excellent double bed, a linen cupboard, airconditioning, a large TV with channels in different languages, a mini bar, a safe, a worktable and a comfortable chair. The rather small bathroom has an excellent shower, but no bath tub. You will find soap, shower gell, a hairdryer and 2 towels per person which were changed every day. Room and bathroom are spotless clean. The room is double glazed but this does not prevent the noise of the motorway from coming in at night (so bring your earplugs with you when you are a light sleeper). The walls are rather thin too (the first night I awoke by the talking of people in the neighbouring room).
