I say it is a nice and good place but if you are an extremely demanding tourist: please keep in mind that it's a 3 star hotel and you just can't expect miracles. Personally I liked the hotel in general, I was satisfied with where the hotel is situated, how it looks and with a standard offered. It is not a very big hotel, in the old style building which was nicely renowated. Maybe I wouldn't call the condition of the hotel perfect but for sure it is good enough and after visiting the city or other activities you can for sure relax there. I thought it was clean and decent inside. I had breakfasts every morning - I would say quite a nice choice. There is also a restaurant-bar in the cellar of the building but I didn't use it (no time) though at check-in at the reception desk I was given a coupon to buy a meal there with some discount. Amongst guests there were people from Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Germany and China in very different age.

St. Barbara is situated in the center of Tallinn (close to many attractions of the city within the walking distance - Old Town for ex.) but in a rather calm and quiet place which is an advantage. It's not far to tram or bus stops. It's easy to get from the hotel to shops and shopping center.

Receptionists are kind, young and smiling, they speak English. They are helpful if you need instructions for directions in the city or a city map, they'll order a taxi for you. The room was clean but I've never met there a cleaning person so I don't know if they are nice but it's because I spent almost no time during the day in my room. Personel in the breakfast place - smiling and nice, dressed as in old times, they were cleaning tables in a manner so that no-one would be disturbed, fast enough but your coffee never disappeared from your table while you went for additional food :)

I only tried breakfasts in St. Barbara - for more I didn't have time. Breakfasts are in buffet style, which is not maybe enormously big but enough for anyone to find sth. for themselves: hot food like eggs and sausages and even potatos (if someone likes them for breakfast), very typical Estonian porridge, pancakes, I think two or three types of jam, milk and joghurt with cereals, cheese, some types of bread (including Estonian black bread), herring and pickles - also very Estonian. The buffet was calm and clean, situated in the cellar, nice brick walls. Tables&chairs wooden, for a bigger group of people a type of bench to sit at the table. I really thought it was enough and okay - fresh food, quiet and clean place, you don't need to rush while eating.

I had a single room so it was not really very big (I think app. 14 m2) but for one person absolutely enough. The room was on the higher ground floor so sometimes I had the window curtained off (rooms in the hotel don't have balconies). In the room there was a bed, an armchair, a wardrobe, TV, chair with a desk, bedside table, coat hanger and a phone. In the room there was no safe deposit box, coffee mashine, fridge. But there was a very small minibar. Compared to the room, the bathroom was really very big, rather renowated but the shower didn't have a shower bassin (you had to stand on the bathroom floor while taking a shower), however I didn't find it sth. very wrong. The only thing which was a bit irritating - in the mornings and evenings you had to wait quite long for hot water which is indispensable for taking a shower in the cold month of March! The furniture is not very new but still enough and for sure don't fall apart. All in all the room is in a decent condition though I wouldn't maybe call it an elegant or very modern one. It is simply good and comfortable.

Tips and recommendations

As accomodation in Tallinn hotels isn't really the cheapest one, I think St. Barbara hotel offers nice quality with attractive price in a very good location close to everywhere. It's a comfortable hotel that meets the requirements of a 3 star hotel. You really don't have to be afraid to stay here.
