A hotel that's gotten long in the tooth *
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe hotel was an high rise building that has gotten long in the tooth and appeared quite out of fashion. The guests were very international. Several hallways were very dark and had no charm. The lobby was bright and straightforward.
Location
The Sheraton was situated very centrally, therefore Brussel's shopping mile was right outside the door. Same with the metro station. One could also walk to the train station. Otherwise, several restaurants were in the vicinity.
The ladies at check-in seemed very stressed out and somewhat unfriendly. In exchange, the young lady in the executive area was that much friendlier and tried hard to speak very good English. Extending One's stay posed absolutely no problem. Our check-out was also a mere processing, being a guest I would have wished for a good departure.
In my opinion, this was a result of the size and impersonal nature of the hotel.
Gastronomy
For the upscale prices in the restaurant, I expected more. The table was sloppy and bread and drinks were first brought after directly addressing the server. Altogether, service was miserable. The food was good, however very clear on the plate so that one didn't get full from the main course. The breakfast buffet was alright, although not at all good. What was offered was limited. Here, too, one expected more for the price.
Sport & Entertainment
The pool had definitely gotten long in the tooth and almost seemed repulsive. The water stank terribly of chlorine and was very cold. There were two roof terraces with pool chairs. On one side, the A/C from the neighbouring hotel made horrendous noise.
That wasn't relaxation. The spa area was located over the rooves of Brussels and one had an excellent view of the city.
Room
The bed was absolutely comfortable and very large. We received a box of Belgian chocolates as a welcoming present. The executive room was equipped with a kettle and coffee and tea. Negative points for the bathroom. The shower curtain absoltely didn't fit over the rim of the bathtub, so that there was always a puddle on the floor. Flimmering neon light and no direct lighting on the mirror made for blind shaving. In my opinion, needed fixing up.
Tips and recommendations
The hotel was no longer nice and was extremely out of fashion. However, nothing was absent in the executive lounge and one had a terrific view of Brussels. Here, Internet was free.
The Sheraton Brussels is definitely past its prime. A pity, as it really had a central location.
