We stayed at the Steigenberger AL Dau Club **** hotel and found the room to be of a good standard, absolutely spotless, and well maintained by our caring room attendant. Towels left on the floor were changed, if left hanging they were not. Like us this hotel cares for the environment. Our arrangement was all inclusive with an upgrade to the Think Pink super all inclusive. This was well worth it, as each morning the freshly squeezed mango juice (or strawberry juice) was waiting for us at breakfast. During our stay the hotel was variously occupied by Germans, some Dutch, Russian and Ukrainian guests. I have to say that all were nice easy going people to stay with and there was absolutely no excessive noise or loutish behaviour from anyone. The overall atmosphere was very good, with staff being genuinely friendly and happy to have you as a guest. The GM's cocktails on a Monday night in the newly built disco cum entertainment lounge was a great opportunity to get to know the GM and his senior staff, the team behind the inspiration of the operational staff. From the reception to the farewell we were very well looked after, right up to the fast response by the hotel doctor (at midnight!) for an unfortunate medical mishap which was expertly dealt with.

The hotel is located on a 5 km boulevard that is bounded by other hotels and small shops, tour operators, restaurants and bars (including the Hurghada Hard Rock Cafe). Plenty of scope for evening walks both before and after dinner. The area is completely safe and the shop owners and taxi drivers certainly interested in your business but not in a pushy unfriendly manner. The private hotel beach is about 200m away from the boulevard edge of the hotel and if you are not inclined to walk that distance, you can take a stretch golf buggy (seats about 7 guests plus driver) for most of the day. The beach is supplied with sun lounges, under permanent shade in the form (mostly) of timber beach umbrellas.

Various tour operators visit the hotel regularly to offer their services and it is also possible to book with other tour operators on the boulevard. However, you will get what you pay for. The quality of the transport and where you will be picked up and dropped off and the quality of the tour itself aligns fairly well with the cost, so for a few euros more you'll be better looked after. There are plenty of interesting tours and excursions you can book from nearby to Cairo and Luxor and beyond.

Hurghada itself is less than 3 euros away by a taxi ride lasting not much more than 10-15 minutes.

Staff speak variously English, German, Russian, and a smattering of other languages, apart from Arabic of course ! They are all without exception friendly and interested in only one thing, making you feel like a VIP !

Your room will be spotless every day and if you send out your laundry before 9 am it'll be back the same day in much better shape than you left it. As I said before, the doctor was timely and the response excellent. Anything that can even vaguely be taken as a complaint is swiftly dealt with.

The food varied every day and we could not get enough of the huge variety of salads that were on offer. Each day of the week was a different theme and our favourite was the Egyptian night. We never felt we could not eat from breakfast to dinner, whether we were in the hotel or on the beach. Try the Dunes restaurant at night on the beach for a delicious seafood dinner. During the day the food at the beach restaurant was somewhat restricted, but with the shuttle service (stretched buggy) it took only a few minutes to go back to the Club House Restaurant. The Taverna restaurant must be on your list of eating places whilst you are there. It is their a la carte dining. Two weeks eating their food and not a single tummy upset, to me that says something about the cleanliness. The pool side bars serve of course drinks and snacks throughout the day.

Internet access is through use of the hotel's lap tops or with your own, whilst borrowing one of their USB dongles. The charges for internet usage for those on the super inclusive package is zero for one hour usage. Plenty of time to make all your friends jealous through facebook status updates !

The animation team kept us going through aqua aerobics, bocci, beach volleyball, stretching exercises, mini golf tournaments, tennis tournaments and after the sun set we would be entertained by them or through events organised by them such as belly dancers in the Waves Disco, or singers, or cabaret style performances either in Waves or the outdoor amphitheatre.

The 'public' toilet facilities throughout the complex and at the beach were kept very clean by the staff.
Two large pools, one heated (to 26 degrees, centigrade that is !), the other 23 degrees (natural temp) kept us in the water at the hotel. For us however they were no match for the Red Sea. Even the snorkeling on the beach for a diver with 30+ years of experience was enough fun to keep me floating there for quite some time, the sea life is absolutely amazing. Of course each sea water session was not complete until after a shower at the beach.

All the equipment you need is in the room, from tv, mini-bar fridge, balcony, air-co, telephone, hair dryer, etc, etc. The curtains close very well to block out the light and the size of the room was excellent.

Tips and recommendations

yeah well after this write up you don't need any other tip than to go there and enjoy your holiday like we did ours !
