Family-run business with a room with a view
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThe hotel was located in an idyllic spot, overlooking Argostoli bay. The views are stunning. The location is also perfect for anyone looking for some quiet, away from the bustle of the city noise. Yet the hotel is a brisk walk away from both "downtown" Lassi and Argostoli. Guests there were quiet; the rooms were spacious and clean.
Location
Studio Rania is a 15-minute walk from the main strip of Lassi. However, renting a car is highly recommended, since you would otherwise have to walk very steep hills. Having a rental car is also the best possible (and most cost-efficient) way to experience Kefalonia. You are allowed to park on site at the hotel. You have little to worry about, since the hotel is lodged in a private area, away from traffic and other hotels. The closest beach is five minutes away.
We couldn't boast enough about the owners' friendliness and hospitality. While Rania and Kostas do speak English fluently, the parents who run the hotel do not. Yet, we (English-speaking Canadians) managed to communicate and be understood. If you've ever been invited to a Greek household, then you would feel at home here: not only were the rooms kept clean, but the slightest concern was tended to immediately. Our room (#107) had a sitting area (every room does) outside, so you could enjoy a peaceful breakfast while watching the sun come up beyond the hills overlooking Argostoli bay. Vassili, the older caretaker, brought us fresh produce from his garden one morning. We were smitten. The hospitality could not be beaten. The owner's son-in-law also drove us around Lassi and Argostoli the first night to show us the sights. This was greatly appreciated.

Room
The size of the studio rooms (double accommodation) had enough room for at least four. The air conditioning was powerful, though unnecessary in late-June, since the nights tend to be chilly. The kitchenette is small, but there is ample space in the fridge. Also, there's lots of counter space on which to make your lunches. Beware, however, that the hotel does not include a full oven/stove range. It does include a little electric heater on which to make a Greek coffee or boil some pasta. The food is affordable in Kefalonia, so eating out will certainly be a welcome option.
Tips and recommendations
If you expect kindness, hospitality, silence, gorgeous view, and affordable prices, then this hotel can't be beat. We will definitely return to Studios Rania.
