Sunstar Hotel Wengen

The hotel is situated at the main street of Wengen, just 2 minutes away from the station and surrounded by all kind of shops. We had a room at the other side, so I do not know if there is much noise in the street (no cars, because Wengen is free of cars). The only means of transport is the "Wengeralpbahn"; this small train takes about 20 minutes to Lauterbrunnen where you can transfer into the direction of Interlaken (good connections) or park your car (large parkinghouse).

Service, especially at the reception is very friendly en helpfull. No problem to speak German nor English. Room service is very good; every night a chocolate on your pillow! You could choose between 5 types of pillows. The service in the restaurant was also friendly and good. The manager and his wife were present in the restaurant every evening to have a small chat.

Instead of booking half-board, we booked half-board Plus. Per person per day, this includes breakfast, 4-course dinner, 2 decilitre of wine of your choice and half a liter of mineral water. So, you do not have to choose an (expensive) whole bottle of wine per evening! This is really a very good service, first time we had ever experienced this in a hotel.
The quality of the dinner, however, did not meet our expectations for a four-star hotel. Although the quality was good, we had expected more variation, more phantasy, more "masterpieces" on our plate. Every evening you started with a salad bar (no special first course), soup, main course and dessert or cheese. One evening we could choose between duck and roastbeef both with the same sauce, vegetables and potatoes. That is no 4-star quality! Breakfst is good and extensive.

Perfect swimming pool and wellness. Garden with chairs and a trampoline. Special playroom for children.
Every Sunday before dinner, guests are invited for a drink in the bar, offered by the hotel owner. He then presents the varied acitivity program of the coming week.

We were upgraded to a duplex room. This is a room with an entresol where two beds are situated. Downstairs, room service transfers a sofa bed into a bed at night were our son slept without any problem. The room was good, with much attention for small details (umbrella, bathroom accessories, free use of bath robes, writing desk and (!) very good lighting). Balcony with chairs and view on the Jungfrau massive.
Disadvantage was that the entresol did not have any window, nor air conditioning. Only a fan produced some cold air, but that was not enough. We spent some warm nights though! Television was a bit old and the carpet could use a replacement, but these our minor aspects.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for a stay in Wengen and if we return to Wengen we will certainly book again!
