Good value family activity holiday on Greek island
Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A AThis year's family holiday was a bit last minute, mostly thanks to the economy! However, we were really pleased with the Ocean Elements Surf Hotel holiday that we chose. Vassiliki Bay is a superb place if you've got an active family; loads of watersports plus mountain biking, walking and other excursions were available.
The Kids Club kept our normally rowdy two busy for most of the day, which meant the two of us could focus on improving our windsurfing. We all went on one of the easier mountain bike trips, which opened up some amazing views towards the nearby Islands (I forget their names).
The ocean kayak trip to (I think) Agio Filly beach was well worth doing - the water is so clear and warm, we were glad we took snorkel and masks.
The Surf Hotel was just right for us. Nothing flash, clean, a nice (clean) pool and lawn area, tasty Greek breakfast, and not badly priced snacks and drinks from the bar next to the pool. The rooms are clean though quite basic, but then we were on an active holiday not a tv watching spa holiday! Our shower room was of the 'wet room' variety, which was fine by us. The air conditioning worked - handy in high summer, and we could see the sea.
Vassiliki town is lovely, with many restaurants, bars and cafes lining the harbour. A great place to just sit and drink/chat. You can catch a ferry from the harbour to other islands.
For a family looking for a well priced activity holiday we would definitely recommend this place.
