The genesis of its creation is based on the principle of a progressive deepening of the existing glacier mountain valley and the carry out of its backlog. Geologists believe that the lake finally shaped in the Pleistocene period. The average depth of Lake Garda is 136 m. At its deepest point it reaches 346 m deep. The lake has a characteristic shape of the south. Measures 55 km long. While the width is 4 km in the northern part, this varies to 12 km in the south.  The southern part is already the foreground. The largest of five islands in the reservoir are Isola del Garda (located about 200 meters from Capo San Fermo).
