St. Moritz is a very old town having already existed in 1137. The town was named after a Coptic Orthodox / Roman Catholic saint named Saint Moritz. Initially the language “Romansh” was spoken in the town however over time the language got lost even though it still is an official language in Switzerland. The city has a very long but peaceful history which still can be seen today in the beauty of the city and the unique architecture. It is a lovely place to visit any time during the year, however is famous for being visited in the winter due to its unique ski resort. A Tradition in St. Moritz is the “White Turf” horse race on the frozen Lake St. Moritz which is hosted every winter. The locals in St. Moritz are very friendly, helpful people who are very proud of their country /city. Swiss locals really enjoy life which can be seen in festive scene when in St. Moritz.

By bus

The train service in St. Moritz is very well managed therefore the town can be easily accessible. “Rhaetian Railway” is the train service operating to St. Moritz. Within the town there is a local bus service which rotates in and around the town.

By plane

The closest airport to St. Moritz is Zürich International Airport which receives international flights coming in and out on a daily basis. At the airport it is possible to rent a car by a variety of different car rental companies, these should however be reserved in advance.

Sights

The main sights which one should see when in St. Moritz include the “Segantini Museum”, the glacier landscape which can be seen when descending the mountains “Diavolezza” and “Morteratsch Glacier”, and the “Piz Corvatsch” which is 3300 meters high and has its own ice cave.

Events

St. Moritz is known for having held the winter Olympics in 1928, therefore it still today holds many sporting events especially winter sports. Other than those some events occurring throughout the year include the Bobsled run and the Christmas market both occurring in December.

Food

In St. Moritz the local food is typical Swiss food which includes specialties such as “Rösti”, “cheese Fondue”, “gratin”, “Raclette” and a dish with a variety of different cheese sorts.
