Interlaken is a small town in the Bernese Highlands and is a very popular destination for outdoor sports or to travel around the Bernese Oberland Alps. It is custom to go hiking in the Alps surrounding Interlaken. A Tradition in Interlaken is the “Unspunnenfest” held in Interlaken and surrounding communities and is only held every 12 years. This festival highlights the traditional Swiss culture which is expressed through a series of activities such as “steinstossen” (a type of stone put), “schwingen” (a type of wrestling) and “yodeling”.

There is a local bus service in Interlaken which rotates in and around the city making everything very accessible. The train service throughout the whole of Switzerland is also very reliable and enables easy transportation.

When going to Interlaken the closest international airport is Bern Airport which receives international flights coming in and out on a daily basis. This Airport is located about half an hour away from Interlaken. At the airport it is possible to rent a car which should be ordered in advance.
