• What the hotel offers
  In a ranch, which covers an area of more than 50.000 m2 with cultivations such as olive groves, vineyards, vegetable gardens and fruit trees but also with the wild vegetation of Crete, lies the ENAGRON. It is located at an altitude of approximately 500 m, near gorges and caves, just above the springs of Mylopotamos, the river that gave its name to the region. You will find us in the village of Axos at the foothills of Mount Psiloritis. Our 32 apartments (35 - 80 m2), which are distributed over 12 independent buildings, can accommodate 2 to 6 people. The apartments are fully furnished and stylishly decorated, equipped with all amenities (central heating, air-conditioner and fireplace) to make your stay comfortable and pleasant all year through. The public areas (restaurant - tavern, traditional kafenio, lounge, bar and many open covered areas) give our guests the possibility to enjoy themselves outside of their apartment every hour of the day. But it is foremost the nature and the magnificent landscape that will make your stay an unforgettable experience. There is a modern fully equipped congress hall that can host congresses and events for up to 120 people. The concept of the Enagron with its special facilities is to provide for a place where you can enjoy nature all year through, whether alone or with company, whether you organize activities of your own special interest or you participate in the activities offered or whether you are looking for this special place to introduce your products or present your plans to your customers.
• Location
  Driving up to Mount Psiloritis, either from Heraklion or from Rethymno, at the village of Axos, the most ancient settlements of this mythical mountain, just above the springs of the river Mylopotamos, which gave its name to this province, opposite to cliffs and gorges where the harrier eagles have their nests, lies the ENAGRON. The landscape is mountainous, unique and of exceptional beauty. Nature is at its best with the thousands of plants and herbs of Crete: The waterside flora meets the plants and herbs on top of Mount Psiloritis, the orange-trees grow next to the native maple-trees and the hollies share their habitat with the olive-trees and the carobs. Along with the marvellous flora and fauna the mountain features also unique geological formations, rock beds, caves, gorges and plateaus as well as shepherds' vaulted stone huts, reminding you of ancient civilisations. No wonder why Mount Psiloritis was characterised as a Natural Geopark by the UNESCO. The far most important thing about Mount Psiloritis however are the people who live in the numerous villages scattered on its slopes, representing the most traditional societies of Crete. Here one can find customs and traditions, everyday rituals and behaviours that have their roots centuries back. The people here are explosive, full of emotions, friendly with very interesting social and religious manifestations.
• Accommodation
  In one-storeyed and double-storeyed (maisonettes) buildings, which form neighborhoods and resemble traditional villages, and inspired by traditional techniques, we have built apartments consisting of one, two or three rooms, equipped with all the necessary means that would enable the stay of 2 to 6 individuals. Specifically, there is a kitchenette, a refrigerator, and the essential cookware. Room facilities also include a television set, music channels, air-condition, central heating and a fireplace awaiting for cozy gatherings. All apartments have a veranda with a view towards the mountains, as well as the gorges of the area.
• Food and Drink
  The traditional Cretan Diet is one of the best known examples of healthy nutritional models, as shown by many medical researches carried out until today. Its benefits are included in the special brochure given to our customers. For a better acquaintance with this diet but also with the traditional gastronomy, we organize a day activity, a short taste trip of "initiation" to the Cretan nutritional model. We start the day with visits around our farm, the gardens, the vineyard, the orchard, the stable. We cultivate olives, grapes, fruits and vegetables. However, we do not use any pesticides or fertilizers because we want to get the authentic taste and the ultimate quality of the products. The same applies to milk and eggs produced in our farm. Cretan dishes are basically seasonal and for this reason we never force nature, we never rush but expect the natural ripening of the products, according to the season. Our customers can not only watch the gathering of the products but also take part in it themselves. They can participate in the gathering of fruit and vegetables, even of wild greens, basic ingredients of the Cretan Diet. According to the season, the program also includes: Grape harvest: It takes place in September, in the beginning or in the middle of the month depending on the ripening time of the grapes. Olive harvest: The gathering of the olives and their pressing for the production of extra virgin olive oil is done during the winter, after the middle of November, and continues for a few weeks depending on the amount of the product. Cheese making: In our farmstead there is a small cheese-making establishment where local cheese of excellent quality is produced. Cheese-making demonstration takes place from time to time by professionals who prefer to use the traditional methods. The customers can participate in this procedure and try the products. After the return from the guiding tour around the farm, we visit the kitchen. Our cooks, Stavroula, Eirini and Virginia are expecting us there. They have all been born and grown up in the neighboring villages, have been familiar with the local tastes since childhood and in addition they have been trained on food hygiene. They will show us how to prepare some of the most typical dishes of Crete. The program continues with demonstrations of traditional food preservation methods and bread making with whole-wheat flour. Finally we can all enjoy the food the preparation of which we have already attended or have participated in it in various ways. Because we think that gastronomy, food and healthy nutrition are very serious matters, our kitchen is open every day and customers or guests can visit it any time, without any extra charge, and watch the preparation of food.
• Other facilities and services
  The design and construction of the accommodation facilities are perfectly adapted to the natural environment with a traditional architectural style and the natural material that were used. They offer all amenities that are required by modern lifestyle without interfering with the landscape. The buildings and facilities that host the events and activities of the farm are combined together harmonically, and being laid out as a village, they are set beautifully in the natural environment. The spacious and cosy lounge with an Internet corner. The gastronomy events take place in the kitchen and of course in the restaurant with the many old artefacts, tools and works of art. Further there are a wood oven, a cheese-dairy, the fireplaces, the raki distillery, the wine-press and of course the farmyard where the events take place during the summer under the cooling shade of the huge oak-tree. The traditional cafenion, friendly and very cosy for coffee, drinks and board games. Fully equipped conference facilities for events, exhibitions and conferences. The small grocery with traditional products, Greek coffee and decoctions from Cretan herbs. The swimming pool at the most impressive point opposite to the cliffs, where eagles nest. A small playground for the younger children. Many semi-roofed areas and cosy corners to enjoy nature with all of your senses. Right next to it, the farm with the animals and birds.
