We have the vacation in Calimera Sunshine very enjoyed. The staff, the entertainment and all the guests with whom we contact had were very pleasant. My small daughter has in the evening before our departure mean cried and would like to definitely again there. See, maybe we'll be next year really again. I liked it very much. …  read hotel review

Beautifully laid out club area with directly at the beach. Well-kept garden, decent pool area (the main pool is about 3 meters deep!) , very sound infrastructure on the complex. The beach is good-but unfortunately no sandy beach dont forget the bathing shoes, the gravel is very hot! Actually all all inclusive guests. To our holiday lots of russian guests, but apparently normal there is, because there are 2 russian speaking receptionists (the only russian …  read hotel review

Cockroaches!

Cockroaches! This morning we had a 10 cm large cockroach. When I announced it at the front desk, nobody was surprised. On my request to swich the room the receptionist at first lied that they had no vacancies. When I told her that on booking.com offers 40% of their available capacity, she ran off and left us waiting at the front desk. When she returned, she said that their booking system is not working, so she can not do anything. When we came two hours later, she just told us that the exchange is not possible. I have never ... met such an approach, and I certainly did not expect it in hotel which is profiled as a 5 *. The hotel is actually on level 3 *. Rooms are old, do not expect any luxury. The services are also very limited, it looks here as if life was extinct. read hotel review

Everything was OK, except the photographer, he was irritating and annoying. He was also to much focused on the woman. There was no added value in his attendance. Please skip this! read hotel review

Don’t order a vacation in this hotel

  • August 2014
Just came back from a 6 days' family vacation in this hotel, and I promise myself that I will write a true and honest recommendation in order to give the correct status of the hotel to any future tourist. First let me say that there is no similarity between the pictures present in the hotel web site to the reality (in addition- it said in the website - that the hotel was renovated in 2012 – I didn't see that at all). The hotel is OLD, and all his good days are way behind it. Our room was in terrible ... condition – there was mold and rust in the toilet and bet tub, the bed was stiff and you could fill it's spring and the AC was so law that you had to operate it 24/7 in order to fill it (many of our rooms had this AC problem, they sent a technician, but he didn’t do anything expect of telling us that the AC works). Other than that the furniture in the rooms are all made of wood and just old. The food is industrial and greasy, and I found, not once, dirty dishes in the dining room. The all-inclusive policy turn out not to be really worthwhile, as the foods and drinks are basic (they have weird substitute for coca cola that has no similarity to the original). The pools and beach are nice (too cold of water though in the morning hours). In addition the hotel is NOT FITTED at all to handicap, older people or to families with babies/infants who needs strollers, as you need to climb MANY STEPS in order to get from the rooms to any public place (dining room, beach, polls, hotels bar and act)- and there is almost no way to get around it. The hotel have strict and weird polices in some issues and they are not willing to move an inch toward their guest, for example- the room clearing crew is at the hotel only until 3, if for some reason your room wasn’t cleaned (they came at 2pm when you baby is asleep) there is no chance there your room will be cleaned later or even to get clean towels after 3 PM. The bottom line- there are so many hotels and resorts in Crete better than this one, so ordering a vacation in sunshine calimera club will be a waste of your time, money and vacation. read hotel review

  • Service
    1.0

And above all, and maybe the most important thing – the hotel guest service is just terrible. Instead of trying to please their guest they are acting totally in the opposite way. Every request first of all is being answers with NO, and trying to find the reason that the situation or dement is under the guest fault and only after a discussion some time they are willing to check again (but most of the tome the answer just stay no/there in no possibly/this is the hotel policy ant act). The front desk manger and the general manager of the hotel is such a ruse people, to say the least, and it seem that they didn't figure out their position is the give service to the hotel's guest and not the other way around.

  • Location

The hotel is located 2 hours' drive form Crete airport and main cities, and you should take that into account if you are interested in traveling, as the nearest touristy place is at least 50 min drive.

  • Room

We were supposed to have a sea view but it was more like garden/sea view as we were in the lowest floor, but this was the fault of the travelling agency as they booked this room for us, anyways, since we were only sleeping in the room it didnt really bother us that much. The room was always nice, we were getting new towels regulary. There was some TV with a like 20-30 channels a minibar and safe. Pretty standart I guess

  • Service

One word - amazing. "Mrs Aphrodite" as we called Popi from the aphrodite bar is such a sweet sweet lady, very hard working and always kind and full of energy, its great to be on vacation where people take such a good care of you. We also cant forget the main guy from the restaurant, I dont remember his name but he was especially nice to us, we could also tell that all the kids loved him as he was high-fiving every one of them.

  • Location

you can borrow mountain bikes (for free) or buy a bus ticket to the nearby town but we would really recommend borrowing the bikes, it was so much fun, we even climbed some mountains and the view was worth it ! You can also rent a car and go everywhere else on kreta, the country is just amazing, such a beautiful places everywhere you look.

  • Sport & Leisure
    6.0

We dont know much abou the animation team as we didnt really need them, but when we wanted to borrow something they were always there to help. The pool is great for swimming and slacking around, theres also a kids mini aquapark that looks fun, there are 2 tobogans/slides, theres also a mini golf which was quite fun, theres also gym which had kinda old equipment but for the 7 days it was more than enough, Id only recommend the hotel to get more elypticals or treadmills as there was only one but well.. the gym was always empty, so.. But the thing we enjoyed the most here was that you can get the mountain bikes for free !!! We went to Irapetra twice, then we climbed the hill and went to some other places, it was great to just be on the bike and explore, really fun a good workout too, hehe.

  • Gastronomy
    6.0

We were really happy with the all inclusive in general, the choice and ammount blew as away, but when we got to the à la carte restaurant we didnt find anything that special or good for us, it should be mentioned that we love to eat healthy and dont really appreciate chips and fat food in general. Anyways, my very favorite cocktail was Swimming pool, you should definitely try it out and if you dont like that they even let you come up with your own combinations if you ask kindly, which was fun, because my girlfriend enjoyed combining and I enjoyed testing it :)
