Cheap and Cheerful - you get what you pay for

This is a basic hotel. We stayed here on our way in and out of Colombo Airport. With night flights we didn't want to pay a lot for only getting half a night each time and were saving our money for nicer hotels later into our trip. Facilities in the room were basic and the hotel looked worn. read hotel review
  • Room

Rooms were basic but had private bathroom and AC. On our first night it took a few hours for the AC to really cool the room down. When we came back at the end of our Sri Lanka tour the guy on reception said he would give us a nice room. This was marginally better than our room on arrival.

  • Sport & Leisure
    4.0

For leisure there was a small pool. Water was very warm - most if not all hotel pools in Sri Lanka are not temperature controlled but the shallow depth meant the pool was warmer than other pools. Not really a place to cool off. However, grounds were kept very well and for the money the facilities were generally good.

  • Gastronomy
    3.0

Breakfast was included in the room rate but this was basic - standard Sri Lanka fare of eggs, toast and fruit. Fruit was not the best quality. We ate once in the evening in the hotel but were not impressed - fish and meat dish was chewy and gave the appearance of being reheated. We noticed few people ate in the hotel in the evening and when we returned at the end of the holiday we ate in Burger King, a tuk tuk ride away. There are other restuarants nearby as well, including some seafood places on the beach.

  • Service
    5.0

Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming as we found all over Sri Lanka. They ordered tuk tuks for us as needed. We had no issues here.

The beach was just a couple of minutes walk away but the walk was over a busy railway track or a high footbridge. The beach itself was a little dirty, not the typical tropical beach we think of in Sri Lanka. While the hotel grounds were pleasant, the hotel was situated in a run down area. However, the shops and restuarants of Mount Lavinia were just a few minutes away by tuk tuk.
