Four of my friends and I decided to visit Vancouver to celebrate a birthday, and were surprised to find the L'Hermitage hotel was among the most affordable in the city. We were five friends traveling together, so got two rooms. Each room had a queen sized bed in a bedroom and a den with a pull out sofa. The hotel would not put three adults into their smaller rooms (even though the rooms had the sofabed) so one of our rooms was a larger room that included a full kitchen (oven, full size refrigerator, dishwasher.,sink with disposal, and pots ..., pans, and utensils. The bedrooms had a study that was set off from the bedroom and looked out over the street. The room was lovely, well appointed, and clean. The only negative about the room was the shower: the water never got hot; at best it was warm enough to use without being uncomfortably cold. This was an issue in both of our rooms. read hotel review

The rooms were clean, well lighted, modern, and comfortable. The internet is free worked well, except that we had to log in every time we needed it (if you closed the browser or your computer went to sleep mode, you'd have to log in again).

  • Location

The hotel is right smack in the middle of town. We were able to walk to several excellent restaurants, and, though it was a bit of a hike, to the waterfront and to the aquarium and Stanley Park. It's very close to the public library (which is a lovely building and worth a visit) and public transportation. There is a full size grocery store on the hotel's block and several fast food restaurants, including a 24 hour coffee shop, around the corner.

  • Sport & Leisure
    6.0

The hotel has a reasonable fitness center for a hotel. The pool and hot-tub are outside on the 5th floor. It was cold and rainy when we went to use them but they are very nice.

  • Service
    6.0

The service at the hotel was excellent. The staff are knowledgeable about the area and were able to give us directions and even discounts to local attractions. They provided us with umbrellas when we were going out in the rain, and they have bicycles available for use by guests as well. The staff remembered our names after check in and greeted us by name each time we entered the lobby.

The hotel is located between Robson Street and W Georgia Street making it a top location for shopping, dining or simply hanging out. There is a supermarket right on the corner of the block as well as numerous coffee shops. Everything is within walking distance, from the shopping malls, to the train station to the waterfront!

We booked a Petit Boutique room and a one-bedroom Boutique Suite. Both were clean and very spacious with large bathroom/shower areas. The room in the suite has a door that offers full privacy if travelling in a group or as a family with children. The double sofa bed in the living area is wide although not terribly comfortable. The person using the sofa bed in our party was more comfortable sleeping on the sofa when it was not in “bed mode”. One of our rooms was facing the road while the other one the swimming pool over the internal courtyard. Although we had no issues with noise from the road, I would recommend having/asking for a pool view.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made sure we had everything we needed for our three-night pre-ski stay. Even before our arrival, the concierge was very quick in responding to a query I had about one of the rooms – very efficient, courteous and helpful.

  • Sport & Leisure

The heated outdoor pool and hot tub are both a welcome rest bite at the end of a busy day in town. Not massive but they were never crowded when we visited late in the afternoons. There is also a decent sized gym.
