The hotel belongs to a group of four adjacent hotels, directly at the beach. We have the building only for a stop-over used. The hotel is outdated - this also applies to the majority of the guests, the in June all the retirement age had achieved. The rooms and Corridors are in need of renovation; this applies especially for the textile floor coverings. Breakfast is English, simple and overpriced. The staff in the dining room recruited from Eastern European staff. … read more

The Art Deco style hotel is a little plush so. It is clean; breakfast and food are good. Our room was large and spacious. Only drawback: the terrible for us but not renovated bathroom. … read more

The friendliness of the staff was very good. In the morning we complained, that we couldn't open a window at night, it was fixed. The room was very clean, hand towels were apparently new every day. The best part of the hotel was the restaurant and bar with an outdoor area. All newly done in black and purple (sounds tacky, but it wasn't), in the outdoor area dark geflochtene furniture, very chic. Staff in the restaurant was super nice. We were with a group (it staying at the hotel not much), however that the staff could not have been friendlier. … read more

The Cumberland Bournemouth is a modern resort style hotel which has achieved Bournemouth s Highest AA 3 Star Hotel rating of 88 this year. One of Europes only remaining purpose built Art Deco hotels, the Cumberland offers guests total relaxation yet is only minutes walk from Bournemouths vibrant centre with its cafe society, superb shopping and beautiful gardens. nThe Cumberland Hotel, now one of Europe s only free standing Art Deco Hotels, was built in 1937 in the Height of the Art Deco Period. A classic shaped building and one of Bournemouth s only purpose built hotels, it fast became one of Bournemouth s finest hotels. nIt was bulit by a builder named Mr Rowley whose daughter now lives in Pasadena, USA. She informs me that she and her friend, Rhoda Goodman, placed five multi sided three penny bits under each foundation stone. She still has the trowel that laid the stone and has promised to send it from Pasadena. nDuring World War Two, it was commandeered by the army and housed troops defending England s South Coast. After the war, The Cumberland soon became Europe s largest Jewish hotel complete with synagogue and remained so for many years. nAround 20 years ago, the hotel became gentile and became somewhat of a sleeping giant until, in 2006, it was purchased and closed down for a multi million pound refurbishment both inside and out. nIt now once more reflects some of the Art Deco grandeur of former days
