In the Arenal national park, with a direct view of the same volcano, is this from the smithsonian institute established scientific research station on the research into the still active, but currently dormant volcano, Arenal. This lodge is the only hotel, located in the national park was built in and is located directly on the ridge only 1.6 kilometer away from volcano, protected by the agua caliente river.

The lodge offers the best view of the Arenal. If possible, you should choose a room with volcano View, then you have to look not every time, after a good prospect, if it grollt. The entire lodge is nicely laid out, the staff was very friendly and the rooms big enough. Everything was clean and neat. One should perhaps more than a night, because there are lots of things to see and do (water falls, bridges, river-rafting, Arenal-Lake and so on). We are on our self organized tour through Costa Rica for a spur (with telephone. Reservation on the same day) in Arenal Observatory lodge and were positive surprised!HCLFHLAfter a somewhat adventurous arrival (about 9 kilometer from the last paved street of La Fortuna centre nearby), we were given a standard room in the 'La casona' (with always clean shared bathroom), which is about 500m from the main building. - What the hotel offersThe Arenal Observatory Lodge crowns a ridge overlooking Arenal Lake and the looming volcano only 1.7 miles away, all within the refreshing ambiance of a working 870 acres farm that includes 400 acres in reforestation and 270 acres of natural forest, all surrounded by the tropical splendor of the Arenal National Park. Arenal Lake is the largest in Costa Rica and offers excellent sport fishing. The lodge actually grew out of several extremely humble buildings originally built for housing scientists and researchers from the Smithsonian Institute and Earthwatch.
