A mediocre hotel with excellent staff

An ok hotel, but the 4-star rating is definitely given only because of the roof-top pool. Located in run-down area, but within easy connection to downtown by metro (you need to walk about 10 min to the nearest station, though). The hotel is rather run-down, rooms and corridors smell (former due to too strong cleaning fluids, latter due to obvious problems with plumbing). The staff is the best feature the hotel has - very friendly, helpful, and multi-lingual - they go out of their way to compensate for the shortcomings of the hotel. I stayed in many Novotels around the ... world, and this one is definitely among the worst in the chain facilities-wise, but with the best staff ever. read hotel review

The roof-top pool is beautiful and has a fantastic view over Athens. We did not use it, as the weather in October was already cold, and the pool bar was closed, but I can see how it can be a major attraction of the hotel.

  • Service
    6.0

The staff were fantastic! We were a big group of 17 and stayed for 4 days, everybody we met was helpful, friendly, and genuinely friendly. They were going out of their way to try to make our stay pleasant.

  • Gastronomy
    3.0

Breakfast is ok for. 2-3 star hotel. one lunch we had was plentiful, but non-descript.

  • Room
    2.0

The room was a standard Novotel-issue, but had obvious problems with the plumbing. It smelled, and the shower would not drain properly. The room was clean, but the smell was really unattractive.

  • Location
    2.0

The area where the hotel is situated is one of the poorest and most run down in Athens. The city is trying to revive it by giving subsidies for cafes, shops and restaurants to open, but it will be a very slow process. The nearest metro station is within 10 min walk, and you reach downtown in 5 min.

This hotel is an interesting find, my comments are as follows: This hotel is in the Omonia district so is surrounded by some of the least attractive and poorest parts of Athens. I was told that it was unsafe to walk in the area, especially at night, I can believe this but I had no problems. Taxis within the city are cheap and plentiful 24 hours a day. I suspect the room rate reflects the location. The hotel has a pool, bar and restaurant on its rooftop. The view of Athens from here is fantastic, especially at night. The rooms ... are Novotel standard. Functional, not huge with a small fridge, safe and TV. The room had aircon though this only operated whilst the room was occupied. The bathroom is relatively small but clean. I cannot comment on the food served in the hotel but the beer is fine. 2 minutes walk away is a falafel takeaway for just one Euro, this is extremely popular with locals and great value. Overall, my feeling is you will not find another Western style chain hotel at these prices in the heart of Athens City. You can pay more for a better area or have better quality much further out of the city. It's a good compromise on both. I would stay again-) read hotel review

Good average stay at the Novotel Athènes

Even though the stay at the Novotel Athens was rather short, I believe this hotel to be a pretty good 3*** hotel, rather than a bad 4****. The breakfast was a little bit messy, recalling the bad organisation of some of low cost hotels I was staying at. I am quite used to some other Novotels and I must admit that this is not the best one I have been staying at, most probably due to the financial crisis that Greece is currently facing. The walls, curtains and carpets definitely need a good refresh. On the other hand, the price ... paid (€ 60, including breakfast) remains a good value for money. read hotel review

Overall ok. I would not stay again since it is just far away from any major sight seeing spot. The next sight seeing bus stop f.eg. is about 10 minutes walk distant. The hotel is located in a district with lots of locals and migrants, you will have a overall impression of Athens therefore. The pool is worn and since there were lots of guests with children it was not usable during the afternoon (at least if you wanted to swim and relax). It was not the business Novotel I was expecting, rather a mid-class family hotel. read hotel review

International guests. Weekend rates are more guests there, what you breakfast noticeable. Breakfast is ok. You'll find everything you need and even freshly squeezed orange juice. Slow internet wireless (256 kbit) is available free of charge. Faster surcharge. Two macs on the ground floor for the internet. Xbox with kinect on the ground floor for all freely available. A small boutique. read hotel review

The rooms are medium sized and with carpet laid out. General it is clean. There was a safe, a small fridge, hair dryer in the bathroom and a tv with a german program (ZDF). A water bottle 0.5 liters per person is free. There is also a kettle for tea.

  • Sport & Leisure

The pool is small and rather than paddling pool to be seen. For swimming it is less suitable. The gym has a device for example, cycling, walking, cross training and bank. Entertainment by a television before. The room is unfortunately right across from the elevators only separated with glass. So, if you in peace want to work out pitch.

  • Gastronomy
    3.0

A pool bar, the evenings to the rooftop restaurant and a restaurant in the evening where the breakfast takes place. The rooftop restaurant has a great view of the Akropolis at night. The food was mediocre. You pay for the view. On the ground floor is the food was not better, the price similar, only lacks the view.

  • Location
    1.0

In the middle of the brennpunktviertel of Athens. Greeks avoid omonia. Drugs, prostitürte and unpleasant people in the umgebenenden streets. At night it is strongly recommended to take a taxi (about 4 €from syntagma or plaka) to drive to the hotel. For women it is also on the day is recommended not in the streets herumzulaufen. The nearest metro is 5 minutes away, the tourist areas about 10-15 minutes walk.
